Lee High School’s Green Ambassadors have officially launched their second year partnering with the Land Trust of North Alabama, this time focusing on creating a bird-friendly campus!
Naturalist Educator Laura Lambert joined the team to introduce students to birding and the basics of identifying birds by shape, size, color, and habitat. Students then headed outside to practice binocular and field guide skills, spotting birds right here in our courtyard.
Last year’s partnership with LTNA culminated in the planting of native species across campus, and this year’s initiative will expand those efforts by adding bird-safe window films, mini bird habitats, and migratory bird counts led by our students.
Senior Saniya Davis shared, “We had so much fun working with the Land Trust of North Alabama last year… I’m excited to see what we do this year, especially with our new and returning members.”
Fellow Green Ambassador Molly Masterson added, “I’ve been exploring more Environmental Science-related college tracks because of the stuff we’ve been doing—it’s shown me I have a passion for these things I never considered.”
We’re so grateful for this continuing partnership with the Land Trust of North Alabama and the opportunities it gives our students to learn, lead, and make Lee High’s campus a haven for wildlife!
🌿 Want to help? Our Green Ambassadors welcome donations of native plants, bird feeders, bird seed, binoculars, or funds to support both current and future environmental initiatives.
