Rotary Club of Arlington Sponsors Interact Club for

AISD Dan Dipert CTC Hospitality Services Students

This spring 18 excited and motivated students at the Dan Dipert Career & Technical Center elected officers for their newly formed Rotary Interact Club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Arlington with the assistance of Advisors Peter Scott and Jill Regina.

The Interact Club brings together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. The club organizes at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and another that promotes international understanding. The Arlington Rotary club sponsors mentor and guide interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.

With motivation from Dan Dipert CTC Hospitality Services Instructor Cindy Will, the program's first successful community service project supported the Arlington Charities Annual fundraiser, Help & Hope. The CTC Hospitality Services, Travel & Tourism and Floral Design students created guest take-home gifts and table centerpieces. The event was successful and served as a great learning experience for the students.

Each student received a Certificate of Membership at the Interact Ceremony in May.

Announcing New Francis Kobty Hospitality Scholarship

In memory of Francis "The Prince" Kobty, founder of Arlington's legendary Prince Lebanese Grill, the Kobty family has established the Francis Kobty Hospitality Scholarship. Francis lived his life with a strong sense of family, community, and hospitality. Prince Lebanese was not just a restaurant; it was the culmination of the American Dream.

In honor of "The Prince's" legacy, the Kotby family offers a Culinary Arts Scholarship to homegrown talent from Arlington ISD and Mansfield ISD to help a student annually reach his/her goals at Tarrant County College. Awarded in August, the full scholarship will cover tuition, books, and supporting materials. Son, Aziz Kobty, will also serve as a mentor to the selected student.

In addition to this scholarship, TSLF offers six other scholarships annually to TCC Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts students and two scholarships to UT Arlington Kinesiology Sports Leadership and Management Program students.

Crowne Plaza Arlington Hires AISD Dan Dipert CTC Hospitality Services and Travel and Tourism Students

The Crowne Plaza hosted a hiring fair at the AISD Dan Dipert CTC in the spring for the

Hospitality Services, Travel and Tourism, and Culinary Arts students.  The AISD students who participated in the TSLF-sponsored program interned at the Crowne Plaza, Hilton Arlington, and Sheraton. Three students have been hired and additional student interviews are being conducted.

The internships provide students with the opportunity to learn about hotel operations, create awareness of hotel jobs and careers, and understand the importance of building an industry professional network. The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s Hospitality Management textbook is used for classroom instruction.

As a result of the internship training, classroom instruction, and TSLF’s 40 Futures Initiative curriculum, the students are receiving training that helps prepare students for careers in hospitality management.
