Career Tool Helps Youth Find Manufacturing Careers
Young future in manufacturing website, another great Dream It. Do It. Minnesota Resource
Dream It. Do It Minnesota has a great tool that will help youth identify a career in manufacturing that is a great fit for their aptitudes, interests, and abilities.
This powerful career tool—Your Future in Manufacturing—helps youth “take a peek into a day in the life of someone who works in modern manufacturing,” says Jaimee Meyer, Executive Director of Dream It. Do It. Minnesota. Regional Coordinator, Michelle Landsverk is also enthused about the career tool. “In a relatively short amount of time, youth can fill out a short online questionnaire, and understand what type of career in manufacturing they would be best suited for,” said Landsverk, “whether that is a position in production or administrative support.”
In addition to the questionnaire, the site includes several videos that feature Minnesota manufacturing employees who talk about their jobs, careers in the industry, and what a typical work day looks like.
The site includes videos on manufacturing career fields such as welding, machine tool, mechanical design, engineering and technology, robotics and automation, and manufacturing support. Each video is accompanied by a brief description of the career field, upsides and downsides, the amount of education needed, Minnesota employers who hire people in that career field, and specific jobs/positions within the field. The site is structured to help youth quickly access important career and education pathway information.
“Because the site exclusively features Minnesota manufacturing employees, it also helps youth understand the very real career opportunities that are here within our own state and region,” said Landsverk.
