Travel Southern Oregon Coast is delighted to announce our 2024-2025 Adventure and Development Report is now available online!

As we reflect on the past year, one theme stands out, the incredible power of community. This report is a celebration of what we have accomplished together, and we are thrilled to share these stories of progress and collaboration. As you read the report, we hope you feel pride in these shared accomplishments and are optimistic about what we can achieve together in the future.

BROOKINGS FEATURED ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PBS TELEVISION IN AN EPISODE OF "REFRESH QUEST"

PBS recently featured Brookings in "An Act of War/A Mission of Peace," an episode of the travel series Refresh Quest. Sponsored in part by the City of Brookings, the episode uncovers a fascinating, little-known chapter of American history.

In 1942, a Japanese pilot dropped two incendiary bombs into the forest near Brookings — the only time an enemy aircraft bombed the US mainland during WWII. What began as an act of war later transformed into a story of reconciliation and peace. The episode explores Brookings' stunning coastline and dense forests, retracing the events of that day to find the exact spot where history unfolded. According to the filmmaker, "The early reaction with this episode is that people are just wowed by the beauty of the area, and the story is so powerful that people tell me they were speechless."

"An Act of War/A Mission of Peace" aired this month on KLCS-PBS, an Emmy Award-winning noncommercial affiliate that reaches more than 15 million viewers in Southern California. After this season, PBS will offer the episode to all PBS stations nationwide.

We are working on a story for our consumer website about "Great Small Towns on the Southern Oregon Coast." We are looking for cool and fun things to see and do, as well as places to eat and stay in those small towns, which visitors often overlook — Myrtle Point, Powers, Agness, Langlois, Sixes, Ophir, Pistol River... you get the picture.
