TTC Pickleball Club
January, 2021

|
2020 has been quite a year, to say the least,
but many good things have happened at our club.
- Nine new permanent pickleball courts were added, including a Stadium Court which has seen the best competition of the year by the top professional pickleball players in the world.
- Our courts were enhanced by new windscreens with beautiful graphics.
-
Barriers were constructed between the courts for added safety and convenience - thank you to Jerry McDonald!
- New permanent nets were installed - thank you again, Jerry!
- Restrooms were upgraded.
- New Superbright LED lights were added to Courts 1-13.
- The Lounge was remodeled and we are looking forward to enjoying it and utilizing it for events in 2021.
-
A new awning was installed in the patio area, with festive lights that were generously donated and installed by the Reichert family.
-
We hosted our first Club Championship Tournament, which was enjoyed by many members. Congratulations again to all the winners! You can see our perpetual trophy (donated by Newport Beach Pickleball Events) proudly on display in the Lounge. Thank you to Lynn Gosselin for donating and installing the spotlight on the trophy!
-
Brand new chairs were added to the patio - with cup holders! Thank you, Ted Angelo!
-
Orange County Youth Sports Foundation, KidWorks and Andersen DEANS all benefited from charity events on our courts.
-
We hosted three of the most prestigious tournaments in 2020 (PPA Showcase, West Coast Classic, and Newport Beach Winter Open). Our club is now known as one of the premier pickleball venues in the country!
2021 is going to be a great year for The Pickleball Club at TTC. Let's go!

As we all know, Covid numbers continue to be on the rise, and even though pickleball is proven to be one of the safest sports, we are going to suspend organized play (Leagues and Ladders) until further notice. Challenge Courts will remain open for those who wish to use them, and you can always create your own group and play together on a court. We encourage everyone to play at their own comfort level.
Please remember to always wear a mask, unless you are playing on a court. The CDC recommends that you wash your hands and sanitize before, during and after play.
We all feel like family, but must respect and maintain social distancing at this time. If you aren't feeling well, stay home and watch YouTube pickleball videos!

Come join us for drop-in play on the Challenge Courts!
Courts 1,2, 3, and 4 are designated as Challenge Courts. This allows our members to play even when they don't have a scheduled match, especially during busy times. We encourage you to play on these courts, with the understanding that you may be challenged.
Challenge Courts are always open, but we will be posting on GroupMe regularly to encourage our members to drop in, knowing other members will be at the club.
To challenge, place your paddle in the rack outside the court and notify the players you are making a challenge. Once the current match is completed, the winning team stays on the court and plays the challenger(s).

LEAGUE NIGHTS
(suspended)
|
|
Monday League - Intermediate
Tuesday League - Advanced Intermediate
Wednesday League - Advanced
|
|
Our League Nights continue to grow! We encourage you to participate in League play - it's a great way to compete with other TTC members at your skill level, it's competitive and fun! With the recent addition of Tuesday League for Advanced Intermediate, there's a place for everyone above the beginner level.
Registration for each League will begin after the results email is sent. To register for the following week, members must reply to the results email. Members who played the previous week will have priority for the following week. Court assignments will be emailed the day of League play.
Monday and Wednesday Leagues are preceded by a free clinic at 4pm with instruction by Abbi. All Leagues begin play promptly at 5:00pm (lower level) and 6:30pm (upper level). Arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled play to check-in and warm up.
You don't need to play every week, just join us when you can. Let's play!
|
|
Ladies Ladder - Fridays, 9-10:30am
(managed by Bev McCabe
and Jackie Umphrey)
Open Ladder - Saturdays, 8-9:30am and 9:45-11:15am
(managed by June Marchigiani)
All players are asked to arrive fifteen minutes early to warm up. Rounds are 13 minutes each with a two minute water break between rounds. Winners move up one court, lowest score moves down one court and everyone changes partners for their next match. All skill levels are welcome.
A GroupMe event will be posted each week on Monday morning. Signup in advance is required.
It's fun, competitive play - come join us!

Many new members are unaware of the "etiquette" of pickleball (and many "old" members may need a reminder!) We thought a few basic pointers might be helpful to all. We all want to be considerate of other members on the court!
- Please don’t enter or exit across a court when a point is in progress. Wait until play has stopped; then move briskly so as to not hold up the match.
- If entering or existing from one of the gates, be sure to close the gate behind you.
- If you hit an errant ball onto an adjacent court that is in the midst of a point, causing a potential safety issue, call out “Ball On” to notify other players and stop their play. If your errant ball is not a safety issue, wait until the point is over before retrieving your ball.

GroupMe is a great tool for our members to set up matches and sign up for events (other than League). Our page is "TTC Newport Beach Pickleball Club".
Remember your posts are being seen by all our members - GroupMe should not be used for personal communication.
We recommend muting your notifications on GroupMe as some of our members LOVE to post! To mute, click the icon on the top right of the screen - the top item is a toggle to mute.
A calendar of upcoming events can be found under Calendar. This is where you will see Ladders and Sunday Fundays, as well as events posted by other members.

Patty Weber is the administrator of our GroupMe app. Give her a call at 480-292-1499 if you have any questions, she's happy to help!
You can set up a separate string within GroupMe to communicate with specific members. Patty can walk you through the process if you need assistance,

Don't throw away your broken pickleballs! Place them in the bin next to the pickleball machine. One of our members is working on a special project and will put them to good use!
And if you've worn out your paddle and splurged on a new one, we would love to have your oldie but goodie for one of our new members to try out!
