A BOOK OF ACTS CHURCH

I have heard time and time again that people want to have church like it was in the Book of Acts. Well, let’s see what that was like.

First off, Pentecost came, (Acts chapter 2) and the Holy Spirit fell on 120 men and women in the upper room. Jesus told them before he descended that they would be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be a witness. So, receiving that power from the Holy Spirit is a necessity if you are going to be a witness.

Secondly, this power of the Holy Spirit caused over 3,000 to come to salvation. It is a sign of being filled with the Spirit when your witness brings people to Christ. Are you being a witness? That is part of a “Book of Acts” church.

Then in Acts 3 they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine (teaching) and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, (Holy Communion) and in prayer. A book of Acts church must have Holy Spirit-led teachers, fellowship, and communion. Is this happening in your church?

Acts 3:43 tells us that the apostles performed signs and wonders. A Book of Acts church will see this happening “daily.” In Mark 16:17, and 20 it says that signs shall follow them that believe. If you are part of a book of Acts church, then signs should be following “you.” Are they following you, or are you following after signs?

Healings take place in the book of Acts. It was a common “sign” that happened wherever believers went. This should be happening in a “Book of Acts” church. Are people being healed in your church?

Persecution came to Christians in the Book of Acts. They were fed to lions. They were crucified. They often fled for their lives leaving behind all they had. This is what will happen to those that truly are praying for a “Book of Acts” church. Are you ready for it?

I believe we are living in the “Book of Acts” days. I believe signs, wonders, and miracles should be happening. I believe people should be saved daily. I also believe great persecution is coming like we have never seen before.

Are you ready for it? I pray you are because it is coming whether you are ready or not. We are not just in the church, we are to “be” the church. We should daily ask God to use us to advance his kingdom. Remember, every branch that brings forth fruit will be pruned so more fruit will grow, but those branches that do not bring forth fruit will be cut off, and thrown into the fire. (John 15:1-2.) A Book of Acts church is a fruitful church. I pray that you are part of one and that you are fruitful.

Determine to read at least one chapter a day from the Old Testament and one chapter a day from the New Testament. Then ask God to show you what he wants you to learn from what you read. You will be surprised how much you will learn!

Tuesday Thought For Today

Today I was reminded of how fragile life is. Several of us had gathered in the Lobby of our senior apartment building. Suddenly one of the men began to have a seizure. It came on suddenly. EMS came quickly and he was taken to the hospital. As everything settled down I was reminded that no one knows when his time on this earth will be up. There is so much for us to be doing while we are still here on this earth. One person was holding him and speaking softly to him and I was praying for him. We each have a job to do for one another. One can pray, another can speak the Word, another can be an encourager to those that need it. Never think that you are unable to minister for the Lord. He will show you what to do if you are willing.

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.”
