AS THE SIN OF WITCHCRAFT
I am sure if you think about it everyone knows a little about witchcraft. It has been a source of sin since time began.
But did you know that rebellion, defined as being bitter, disobedient, and one that provokes is also considered witchcraft?
King Saul found out that his rebellion, which was disobedience, caused him to lose the kingdom. He did not follow God’s instructions when he was told to destroy the Amalekites and all their animals and everything they owned. Instead he only killed a few people. He kept the king alive and kept the best animals for himself.
In 1 Samuel 15 Samuel, the prophet, confronts Saul when he sees what he had done. Instead of admitting his sin Saul blamed others. In verse 23 Samuel said, “For rebellion [not doing what God said] is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” It was too late for King Saul; he had been warned, and now there was no room for repentance.
So, if we are told to do something and deliberately do the opposite, we are in rebellion, which God considers the same as witchcraft. If we are told to forgive and we do not and become bitter, we are practicing witchcraft. If we are stubborn, wanting our own way, we are practicing idolatry.
It isn’t just the black hats and black long dresses that makes one a practicing witch. It is not doing what God said, rebelling against his will. This rebellion is “as the sin of witchcraft.”
We open a gate for Satan to come in when we walk in rebellion and stubbornness my friend. If things are not going the way you want them to go in your life, perhaps you should examine your heart to see if there are some things that you should change.
The sin of rebellion, called witchcraft, and the sin of stubbornness will not go away unless we truly repent.
