THE APOSTLE PAUL – LESSON 12

THE JERUSALEM COUNCIL – PART 1

Paul had completed his first missionary journey with Barnabas. Now they were back at the home church of Antioch in Syria probably about 48 to 50 A.D. when a great ruckus occurred relating to the gentile believers.

The Jerusalem church, led by Peter and the Elder James (brother of Jesus) had several Pharisees among their number who had converted. These Pharisees believed the gentiles should follow the entire Mosaic Law. (Acts 15:5.) This included circumcision and everything else with it.

It is a known fact that whatever you were taught in values and beliefs with which you were raised in is very hard to change. We naturally are unwilling to accept new ideas and ways that run against what we grew up with. These Pharisees were a classic example. They had rigidly followed the Mosaic Law (Ole Testament) all their life and they were convinced that any new convert to Christ must do the same, or else God would not accept them. After all, pagans who had previously converted to Judaism were always circumcised and taught the Jewish law and customs, so why should it be any different for these gentiles who now were Christ-followers?

Consequently, they sent certain men from Jerusalem to Antioch teaching that they all must be circumcised like the Jews. In fact, they taught that one could not even be saved unless they were circumcised. Faith in Jesus just was in no way sufficient by itself. (Acts 15:1.)

This smacked in the face everything that Paul and Barnabas had preached and taught. It caused a huge argument in Antioch which tomorrow we shall learn more about.

REASONING WITH GOD

Isaiah was a prophet that called the nation of Israel to repentance. In chapter 1 verse 18 it says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

The word reason means to argue, convince, judge, dispute. In other words, God wants to have a conversation with the sinner. He wants dialogue with you. In this dialogue with God, you have to be honest with what you have done, and He will bring forgiveness.

One of the things that happens to most Christians when they fail God through sin is that they shut themselves off from God. Satan will tempt you to sin, and when you yield to it, he will torment you with the thoughts that God doesn’t love you anymore. This absolutely is not the case. God hates sin but loves the person that sins. He wants to talk with you about it.

In this chapter of Isaiah, the prophet is bringing judgment to Israel, but also bringing hope if they turn back to God. In verse 19 it says, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” God is telling us that if we willingly forsake our sin and obey what God tells us to do, then things will prosper for us.

Reasoning with God is a good thing. If you have slipped and are in a place of needed repentance, have a little talk with the one that loves you more than anything. He will help you get back on track.

Prophetic Exhortation

You cannot expect to receive anything from God if you ride the fence. You must make a decision to go one way or another. A double-minded person is unstable in all their ways. (James 1:8)

APOSTLE PAT MURRAY

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Have you noticed how at times the battle that’s IN you seems greater than the battle that you are IN? Well indeed sometimes it can be...But don’t you dare give up. You must know that you’re not alone in this fight for survival. Others have been there before you and they were able to OVERCOME the battle and WIN...And so can you. However, you can only do this by walking THROUGH the battle without trying to DENY that you’ve ever had a battle; Much less ADMITTING how hard it’s really been for you. Just know that even the greatest warrior CANNOT ever WIN the battle IN them or AROUND them by DENYING its existence. Oh no...But they WON by first ADMITTING that yes, the battle was real. Then it was only through the NAME and the BLOOD of Jesus that they were actually able to overcome it; And they did so by faithfully persevering and daily walking in faith. So just keep on believing and press your way on through the battle that’s still raging WITHIN you...And when God sees that faith is activated in you; He will then move TOWARDS you and He will TURN that situation around that’s IN you; As well as the one that you are actually IN...For your good and for His glory. Yes, God has done it before and He will do it again...Just for you. So Trust Him, Believe and Receive!!

PROPHET EXHORTATION

7-12-2021

History has shown a pattern of death and destruction that has befallen the Jewish people during the three-week period known as "Between the Narrow Straits" or "The Time of Distress", the period between Tammuz 17 and Av 9. This year, this time falls between Sunday, June 27th until Sunday, July 18th.

On the 17th of Tammuz, the walls of both the First and Second Temples were breached and both Temples were destroyed three weeks later on the 9th of Av. The Hebrew word for strait is "tzar", which literally means “narrow,” but also means “anguish” or “distress.” They commemorate this time with mourning and fasting. They also use it to look forward in hopes that the temple will be rebuilt again one day. Of course, we know it will, and Messiah will sit on His throne there.

Many in the body of Christ sense a lot spiritually and in the natural during this 3 week period as well, even if they don't always know why, as we have been grafted into Israel, and what affects them can affect us also. Be aware that you may be going through a tight place spiritually, feel intense things in the spirit, and in the natural...you may feel pressure and some distress, as you pass this narrow place, known as "between the straits". This will not be for everyone, but many of God's prophetic people have and will feel this during this time.

It is a time of pressing through to enter into the promises that the Lord has for you in the upcoming months, and even what He has for you in the New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, which will fall in September this year. This is not a time to get into doubt or fear, but to remain in faith, in much prayer, and trusting in the Lord to see us through to the other side. This is also a time to repent for any doubt or unbelief that we have allowed ourselves to get into during this past season of warfare.

The month of Av on the Hebrew calendar, which began at sundown this past Friday, is usually known as the month you metamorphose or disintegrate, one of the two. This is the month the Lion roars. (Amos 3:8) This is the month where God allows destruction, so He can rebuild.

Hold tight to Him, let His Spirit guide you through, and trust that He that does not slumber or sleep, will uphold you with the right hand of His righteousness. Focus your gaze on Him more intently as you navigate your vessel during this time, and you will see Him bring you through the floodwaters, safely on the other side!

Here's a post I shared before that discusses more about this time...

https://www.propheticreformer.com/.../between-the-narrow...

Here is a look at historically what this time is, and why the Jews still mourn for these 3 weeks...
