HANUKKAH – LESSON 3

Mattathias’ son Judah became the leader of the rebellion against the Seleucids in their homeland of Judea. Judah, using guerrilla warfare tactics with his 3,000 to 6,000 men against the Syrian armies of 50,000 or more, was so effective that he was called “The Hammer” which is Maccabee in Hebrew. Soon, the whole family came to be known by the name Maccabee, which was not their birth name.

During the course of the war, all the Maccabees were killed except Simon who finally came to peaceful terms through the influence and favor of Rome. This peace came in 140 A.D. and ended over 28 years of conflict with the Syrian empire.

It must be noted that when the war broke out about 167-168 A.D. that many Hellenist Jews supported the Syrian army. Over the course of the early years of war, the Maccabees killed many of these Hellenist Jews who had turned against traditional Judaism. It was their way of purging unbelievers.

When the Maccabees brought restoration of the temple in 64 A.D. by restoring worship and observance of the Law (Torah), there was one challenge that seemed impossible. It was the lighting of the candle that represented the light of God’s presence.

The law mandated that the candle burn 24 hours a day every day of the year. It was never to be allowed to go out. It had obviously been out a long time by Antiochus’ actions. The candle was to use only a specially designed blend of olive oil and other ingredients. It took eight days to make this special anointed oil.

They found only enough remaining oil to burn the candle for one day. They used the oil and lit the candle anyhow, knowing it could not last. They promptly set about making new oil. To their amazement, the candle was still burning the second day, then a third day, and on for eight full days until the new batch was ready. It was a miracle. God honored the intentions of their heart. He did not let “His” flame go out.

They dedicated the temple and God provided the flame to represent His blessing and presence. This gave birth to the historical feast that Jews called the “Feast of Dedication.” We call it Hanukkah.

Tomorrow we will learn some of how they celebrate this eight-day feast. Today (November 30) is the first full day having began last night at sundown.

THAT STILL SMALL VOICE

Elijah had run from Jezebel when she threatened to kill him. There had been a mighty miracle performed of fire coming down from heaven and consuming a water-soaked offering on an altar, but he didn’t have that on his mind. He was having a pity party. He even told God that he was the only one left that hadn’t forsaken God.

God then brought a wind, and then an earthquake, and then a fire. He did not speak to Elijah through any of these. (See I Kings chapter 19.) After these three rather loud events, God spoke to him a still small voice. He asked him what he was doing hiding in a cave. This eventually led to the end of Elijah’s ministry. He was told to anoint Elisha to take his place.

People often are looking for a great sign to let them know that God is speaking to them, but that is rarely the case with God. He speaks in a very quiet and calm voice softly. To hear Him we must have our ears tuned in to things of the Spirit. God doesn’t want to shout at us. He wants us to come before Him and listen until He speaks.

Often, we are like restless children wanting immediate attention, but God is holy, and demands that we treat him with the honor and respect that he deserves. To hear God’s voice, we must listen. We can hear him speak to us through reading the scriptures. But you must find a quiet place to be able to concentrate. Remember He is a gentleman and rarely shouts!

Find a quiet place, perhaps early in the morning when no one is there but you. Sit and take time to read the scriptures and wait to see if God wants to speak. It usually comes as a prompting in your thoughts. Listen then act on what He says. Remember, he will never contradict the written word. Jesus is that Word made flesh, and the Father, the Spirit and Jesus all work together to speak to you.

I pray that you take the time to do this. It will change your day and eventually your life.

PROPHETIC WORD

AS GIVEN TO HELEN SANDERS

For I have often called to you to come aside and rest in my presence and there have been those that have heeded my calling, but there are many that have been distracted in this hour and have failed to come and be with me. The testing period is going to increase for only those that come through the tests of the fire will be able to stand in the days ahead. There will be an outpouring of my spirit greater than before upon those that come and sit at my feet, but for those that don’t there will be greater and greater deception that will lead them away from the Word of Truth. Do not hesitate to sit often at my feet for this hour that is about to come will bring many things. There have been many strategic moves on my timetable, and I am putting in place those that are willing to yield to my leading. As they are strategically placed, they will see me move in their lives greater than ever, bringing my glory and my outpouring to those they minister to.

While at the same time be aware that in this season that is approaching there will be much that appears as light, but it is not of me. The deception will look so real that many will fail to discern the difference between the real and the deception. You must, again I say must, listen to my Spirit more than you ever have in this hour. There is about to take place a shift that will be like an earthquake in the natural, opening up the earth and causing many to fall into it, but it also will happen spiritually for those that are not aware of its coming. You must watch and pray like you never have before. You must daily be in my presence to ward off what is about to take place so that you are secure in my arms.

There will be a greater shaking than ever for this is the hour of revealing the darkness to those whose eyes are tuned to the light. Do not concentrate on the darkness. Concentrate on the light for the light will overtake the darkness when it is elevated. The deception will be so great than many that appear to have been my servants will be totally deceived.

So, my children, come apart and spend time with me so you will not fall for Satan’s many devises that are about to be displayed. I am here awaiting your presence. I am here to sustain you in this hour. I am here to bring you the truth you will need, and you shall be victorious as you are sustained by my presence saith the Lord.

God still speaks through his prophets.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Just know that when God has destined someone to be in a PALACE type situation; Absolutely no one can keep them confined in a PIT or in a PRISON. You can ask Joseph. Yes, God has His own ways and means committee...And they’re none other than Father, Son and Holy Ghost along with His ministering Angels. Therefore you best believe that any of them can single handedly snatch you out of a fire, a storm tossed sea, a lions den, from the back side of the desert or out of a deep pit or a lonely prison. So you see it really makes no difference how you got to where you are today; For God can, God does and God will take you from where people and situations may have caused you to be...To wherever The Great I Am destined, planned, called, equipped and anointed you to be. So have no fear...For God’s got this... And He’s about to stay the hand of the enemy on your behalf. As He shows up and shows out right in the midst of your difficult or even impossible looking situation. Now satan and all his cohorts just better back up, lay off and watch out. For when they start to messing... Our faithful God will always start to blessing.
