Roots
If I have made anything of my life, there is only one reason. Jesus picked me up off the desert floor, cleaned me off, gave me a drink, and guided me from a child. He chose me. He planted me, allowing me to grow roots seeking His rivers and strength.
Roots are twisted and sprawling, but a necessary anchor in times of trouble.
In the Spiritual realm, they are an intertwining system of deep beliefs, principles and attitudes. What we don't see is more important than what we do see. The tougher the storms of life, the deeper roots dig to find the nourishment that we need to survive. A heavy storm may bring down a weak limb but has no effect on the roots.
No matter how close I got to my Savior, I was never satisfied. I always wanted, and still do, want to be closer.
Jeremiah 17:8 "He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends its roots out by the stream."
Psalms 1:3 (David writing about the man with wisdom), "He is like a tree planted in streams of water, which yield its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away."
Jesus walked by and cursed the fig tree because it had no fruit to feed Him. We must do the same.
If you think about it, you can almost give a name to each of our hidden roots: the Virgin birth, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, Forgiveness of sin, The Holy Spirit, Victory over death, Love, Eternal life, Heaven and Help in times of trouble.
He (they) are enough.
Roots are what grounds us through thick or thin--His subterranean work is going on in our Soul. Our growth is always strengthened with each truth we capture. Above ground, He has pruned our limbs He does not want us to cultivate. He is many things, but He is truly a gardener!
Ephesians 3:16-19 "...strengthen You with power through the Spirit in your inner being so that Christ may Dwell in your hearts through faith...being rooted and established in love...that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of Christ."
The roots are stronger than the limbs. They can push up rocks and my husband's sprinkler system.
Roots can spread and even grow new trees. (Evangelism)
The next time you are near a tree, try to picture its hidden deep abiding root system. Think about them. Pray roots go deeper in us through reading The Word and praying for understanding. Seek people with strong root systems in Christ to be around.
Think about what is going on with us we don't see, and thank our Heavenly Father for His faithfulness to us so we can be completed and grounded in Him and hear the words, "Well done!"
