TODAY! — APRIL 14: THE COOLEST KIDS IN THE USA Hang Out Do Good (HODG) organized an amazing coffee fundraiser, and Field Team 6 is thrilled to be among a who's who of the SoCal Resistance in co-hosting it for two of our biggest heroes: Congresswoman Katie Porter and her special guest, Senator Elizabeth Warren. The event took place this very morning in Culver City, and Field Team 6 Founder Jason Berlin had the honor of speaking about how to partner with us or volunteer to register Democrats in CA-47 and wherever they're needed most. The funds raised will benefit Katie Porter for Congress so the fabulous stateswoman and her White Board of Justice can continue doing the people's work in the People's House.

We'll be texting and registering new Democrats in all 9 swing states (!!) — AZ, CA, FL, GA, NC, NV, PA, TX, and WI. Let's get Democrats elected up and down the ballot! We've upgraded the tech with some sassy Chrome extensions that turn this into a two-click operation! WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20: SOCIAL MEDIA STORM Ahoy, Stormers! It’s now been an amazing 10 weeks in a row with over 50 million impressions! And we’ve created at least 40 million impressions each week since the start of 2022. Help keep that big momentum going by joining our next awesome social storm on Wednesday, April 20 at 11a PT as we jump onto the web yet again to raise awareness for Field Team 6's efforts to #RegisterDemocrats and save the world. We’ll also be recruiting volunteers for our ongoing in-person voter drive trainings, phonebanks, textbanks and postcarding programs. These storms are making a difference and will help form the basis of a blue tsunami this fall. SUNDAY, APRIL 24: TAKING IT TO THE STATES! Field Team 6 and partner Democratic Volunteer Center (DVC) are co-hosting an incredibly important webinar on Sunday, April 24 at 1p PT. The topic: how to beat back Republican attempts to use GOP-led state legislatures to subvert free and fair elections. Attacks on the freedom to vote, and on our ability to freely and fairly count those votes, have dramatically increased in the past year, largely via anti-voter laws passed by GOP-controlled statehouses. These laws seek to limit every aspect of voting, including voter registration, early and absentee voting, and even ballot counting. Experts have also suggested that a fringe legal theory known as the independent state legislature doctrine, which is now appearing in briefs submitted to the Supreme Court, could lead to a subversion of the will of the voters in the 2024 presidential election. In this talk, Daniel Squadron of The States Project discusses the crucial role of state majorities in creating election law, the critical need to elect pro-democracy candidates to statehouses, and the key target states to focus on for 2022 and 2024. VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: PETER PETRE

This week we’re shining the Spotlight of Special Thanks on an amazing Field Team 6er, Peter Petre, who’s an expert on our Voterizer app as well as an accomplished journalist and book author.  Peter attended the University of Iowa at the height of the anti-Vietnam War protests. The ROTC building burned down and finals were canceled two years in a row. Influenced by those mind-bending events, Peter got into journalism, briefly covering the counterculture for the alternative Chicago paper, the Seed, and later writing for Fortune, where eventually he served as executive editor for all things tech.  He also became a book author, co-writing the autobiographies of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alan Greenspan and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, among others.  For a long time, Peter says, he took it for granted that America’s problems would get solved. But over the past few years, “I’ve come to the disturbing realization that if we don’t defend democracy, nobody will.”   The one-two punch of watching the rise of MAGA and getting locked down in the pandemic made him want to do something. “I was at a loss about the Trumpian brutality and mendacity sweeping our country, and then the pandemic jolted me out of passivity.”   After failing to land a spot as a Covid contact tracer, Peter found Field Team 6, where he joined the pit crew for Voterizer, the only custom-built app for registering Democrats.   Peter monitors Voterizer’s presence in Florida, arguably the swing state of all swing states and a shameful leader in voter suppression schemes. And it’s a complicated state to monitor. Voterizer must maintain unique links to each of the state’s 65 counties — because each has its own registration site. “Say a student at Florida State wants to vote by mail,” he explains. “I try to make sure she can readily find her way to the Request-a-Mail-Ballot page on the county site... and that the page actually works.”  He says he’s on the sites so often that he feels acquainted with the county Supervisors of Elections, who often feature photos of themselves.  Peter, we salute your dedication to the cause, appreciate your commitment to helping every Democrat vote, and hope to register many more Dems in the coming years...enough to swing the Sunshine State back away from the Dark Side!
