WITH GRIEF AND RAGE, ELDERS CLIMATE ACTION BEARS WITNESS TO THE SYSTEMIC RACISM ON DISPLAY IN THE DEATHS OF GEORGE FLOYD, BREONNA TAYLOR, AHMAUD AUBREY AND SO MANY BEFORE THEM. WE DENOUNCE THE BRUTALITY OF MILITARIZED POLICING AND CALL FOR STRONG COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT OF THOSE WHOSE DUTY IT IS TO PROTECT US.
The climate crisis that we are struggling against is, fundamentally, a crisis of racial and economic injustice, with roots in colonialism and oppression. The extraction economy has always viewed indigenous lands as assets to plunder and minority communities as suitable sites for waste and destruction, sacrificing black, brown and indigenous lives and all opportunities to prosper. This system is crushing our democracy. It is up to us to end this.
Elders Climate Action commits to an anti-racist agenda, rooted in justice and equity. We recognize that the climate fight involves choices about whom to include, whom to protect. We will examine our work through a lens of justice to assure that we recognize and free ourselves of racist and exclusionary practices and indifference. We pledge to defend Black lives, to protect the oppressed and those whose voices are not heard. We will continue to demand love, truth, a habitable planet, and fundamental human rights for all. We will not stop until change fully comes.

In the meantime, you can join the protests while maintaining social distancing by following Greta Thunberg’s brave example: Make a sign, don your mask, then stand alone in an open public space with your sign. A small group can stand 6 feet apart, but together in spirit.

Greetings!
The pandemic has shown us just how quickly Americans can take action when they believe their communities, face a real and immediate threat. Do Americans believe that the climate crisis is less real, less immediate?
While about 66% of Americans say they are at least “somewhat worried” about global warming, only about 26% are “very worried,” says a recent survey by Yale University’s Program on Climate Communications. An earlier Yale survey found that folks who say they are “alarmed” about global warming are far more likely to take action than those who are “concerned.” So how can climate activists raise the level of alarm so people will take meaningful action?
We at ECA want to get this right. Without
frightening people, we aim to present an honest picture of the life-threatening changes that scientists predict will arrive as soon as 2050. We want to inform you, alarm you, inspire you to join the global mobilization that's needed to end the climate crisis, and give you a great platform for doing so
