Welcome New Teachers
A big TUSD welcome to our 57 new teachers, 37 classified staff members, and 4 administrators.  We know they will be in good hands and learn from the very best!

Solution Tree PLC Institute
Shellie Santos |  Director of Curriculum and Instruction

As a result of the funds available for professional development through the one-time Educator Effectiveness grant, TUSD was able to send 163 staff members to the PLC At Work Institute in San Jose on July 19-21.

PLC experts Tim Brown, Mike Mattos, and Luis Cruz inspired us with keynotes on Creating a School of High Expectations, When All Means All, and Igniting the PLC Process

This year, we will continue to progress in our PLC implementation by being tight on the following:

1.  Working in collaborative teams to take collective responsibility for student learning;

2.  Implementing a guaranteed and viable curriculum;

3.  Monitoring student learning through ongoing, team-developed common formative assessments;

4.  Using data to build the team’s capacity;

5.  Providing systematic interventions and enrichments;

Throughout the year, we will have the support of Solution Tree Associates as they provide embedded coaching at the site and district.

Google Boot Camp
Google Bootcamp
Jay Brem |  Director of Technology and Innovation

A big thanks Brown Elementary for hosting our Google Bootcamp on August 2nd!  An even bigger thanks to the 30+ TUSD teachers who attended and made it a great event.  Sessions were led by our awesome, homegrown, TUSD Tech Ambassadors: Mayra Moreno, Marshall Beyer, Jennifer Hughes, and Reid Volk.  Our participants engaged with Google tools and features such as Classroom, Drive, and Doc sharing.  They were doing such good work that they blew out two projector lamps!  This was our first event that’s part of our new ed tech professional development initiative: Project GROW.  Project GROW is TUSD’s tech PD initiative that promotes technology professional development that includes:

  • Growth mindset
  • Responsible tech use
  • Opportunities to build capacity and confidence
  • Web-based resources
  • Look for more information on Project GROW as we start the school year.  Of course, don’t hesitate to check out Ed Tech in TUSD Website, our tech website where you can find resources and request tech PD.

Modernization Update
This summer TUSD Maintenance and Operations oversaw a variety of campus improvements as well as construction and modernization projects.  New fencing was installed at Medeiros, Earl, Brown and Walnut.  OnTrack also moved into the former Lyons House and the Special Education Department moved across the street to the former bus shed.  Stay tuned for more campus improvements thanks to Measures N & O!
Meet Marlaine!
Marlaine Babbitt is a Purchasing Specialist in Fiscal Services and has worked for TUSD the past 19 years.  On an average year, Marlaine processes over 5,000 Purchase Orders!  Marlaine was a Turlock High School graduate and actually had an English class in her current office.  She can remember walking below the building and students throwing paper out of the windows from the top floor!  Marlaine will be retiring in November and she is looking forward to joining her husband in retirement, attending car shows, spending time with her grandkids, and traveling in the family motor home.  Thank you Marlaine for helping put the "US" in TUSD!
