Welcome 2025 and Happy New Year! 2024 was a year of transformation for the TWU Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business & Entrepreneurship thanks to the invaluable contributions of our students, alumni, community, faculty, and staff. We focused on supporting our students through professional development programs, emphasizing the importance of career readiness and success. Our staff advisors hit it out of the park with our retention effort and the Owl's Nest Peer Mentoring Program. We pioneered recruitment and retention models for the University. We launched certificates and credentials for undergraduate and graduate students. We also prioritized community engagement, embodying our mission of empowering women and recognizing the impact of our communities. Together, we cultivated a culture of engagement at the MAK, fostering teamwork, spirit, and growth mindset. Our commitment to excellence was evident as our faculty member was recognized among the Top 75 AI Innovators in the region, highlighting our dedication to innovation and cutting-edge research. Our consistent rankings in various programs fill us with pride and motivate us to continue striving for excellence.

Student Advisory Board hosts second annual Dress for Success event

The Dean’s Student Advisory Board hosted the second annual Dress for Success event in September 2024. In partnership with Dress for Success Dallas and the W. Ray Johnson Foundation, this impactful event provided students with expert guidance on professional attire and workplace readiness. The collaboration aims to empower students to enter the workforce confidently, aligning with the college’s dedication to student success and career development.

Meet the Firms connects students with employers

Meet the Firms, the college’s premier annual networking event, was held in October 2024 and connected business students with industry leaders and potential employers. The event offered students the opportunity to engage directly with firms, explore career paths, and discuss internship and job opportunities. This valuable experience underscored the commitment to bridging the gap between academic preparation and professional success.

MHA students participate in new Immersion Sequence

One of the highlights of graduate student Haydee Madrigal's time at TWU has been the Health Care Administration program’s new immersion sequence, which launched in Fall 2024.

The sequence is a series of three courses that require MHA students to complete coursework online prior to required attendance on a TWU campus or another off-site field case location for up to three intermittent days.

MAK College starts Beta Gamma Sigma student organization

The MAK College formed a Beta Gamma Sigma student organization in the fall of 2024 so students can learn how to leverage their BGS membership, benefit from it and also use it to help benefit society and the business community.

Tricia Whaley was one of several students recognized by Chancellor Feyten at the MAK College's commencement ceremony in December.

Tricia graduated with an MHA with an emphasis in global health. Highlights of her time at TWU included two study abroad trips to observe healthcare administration in Sweden and Canada.
