#ADULTING at Arlington ISD: Learning Life Skills in a Fun, Hands-On Way

On May 1 and 2, over 140 CPAs, friends, and community volunteers came together at the Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center to bring #ADULTING: Balancing the Checks of Life to life for local students.

This interactive financial literacy event gave participants a firsthand glimpse into the challenges of managing income and expenses in adulthood. Each student was randomly assigned a career (with a corresponding income) and a family size—with children—and tasked with navigating an “alternative reality” where they had to make real-world spending decisions.

From housing and transportation to groceries, entertainment, and childcare, students visited booths representing the everyday costs of adult life. With limited funds and competing priorities, they were challenged to budget thoughtfully, make trade-offs, and consider what financial balance looks like in the real world.

A huge thank you goes out to the 140 volunteers who made this event possible! Your guidance and expertise helped create an impactful and engaging experience that students won’t soon forget.
