Join the Global Giving Movement… #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday, celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, has become a global movement much like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is one day a year when we all join together to give back. Whether you give your time as a volunteer, monetary donations or you simply lend your voice to a cause you hold dear, #GivingTuesday is the time to do it. Join us on November 27 for #GivingTuesday. Keep an eye on your inbox and on social media to see how you can help and to spread the word this #GivingTuesday!
Give a Helping Ham
This Holiday Season: One More Day to Take Advantage!

Help feed neighbors in need this holiday season while you feed your family a delicious meal. For every pound of ham purchased at participating Hy-Vee locations from November 14- 24, 2018, Pipestone Veterinary Services will donate a pound of ham to The Food Bank to feed those in need this holiday and beyond. All three Hy-Vee locations in Columbia (West Broadway, Conley and Rockbridge) and one in Jefferson City are participating. So, head out to Hy-Vee and buy a delicious ham and you will be helping The Food Bank share food and bring hope this holiday season!
*The hams purchased as part of
Hy-Vee's 'buy a ham and get a free turkey' special promotion are included in this initiative.
What a deal?!
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
You Don’t Have To Be Big to Make a Big Difference

Kids Helping Kids Day is Saturday, December 8. We welcome you and your family to join us in our efforts to share food and bring hope to neighbors in need in our community. Children ages 4-12 and their parents are invited to join us for a fun day (morning and afternoon shifts available) where we will work together to repackage food for distribution in our Volunteer Room. There will be a visit from Miss Missouri's Outstanding Teen - Ashley Whipple and Buddy the Backpack and a tour of the warehouse. Little ones can make a big difference!
One for One Holiday Food Drive - December 12

Every December, The Food Bank partners with Zimmer Radio, Columbia Professional Firefighters, Jefferson City Fire Department, and the Networks of Mid-Missouri to collect food and funds during this one-day drive. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. staff and volunteers will be at locations in Columbia and Jefferson City to collect donations. There will also be a phone-a-thon where volunteers will accept call-in donations toward our mission of sharing food and bringing hope.

Year-end Giving Info

As the end of the year quickly approaches and you are finalizing your holiday list, do not forget your year-end giving plan. The Food Bank turns every $1 donated into $21 worth of groceries due to our membership in Feeding America and our partnerships with retailers. Gifts can be designated for a specific program such as Buddy Packs or VIP Veteran Packs, or can go towards our annual fall fundraising campaign, Score Against Hunger.
As you are assessing your year-end giving opportunities keep tax credit options in mind. The Food Bank offers two different tax credit options you may be eligible for: Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) or Food Pantry Tax Credits.
