This program helps Paterson students with disabilities
"The program is known as TIES, which stands for Transitioning for Independence, Employment, and Success. Under TIES, the district partners with 12 organizations to place students in work sites, including the Eva’s Village social service program, the Paterson Museum, Marshalls and Price Rite Marketplace at the Center City Mall, the Stop & Shop store in Wayne, and Passaic County Community College." Honoring Family Advocates |

As an organization founded by families, The Arc of New Jersey is always proud to honor individuals who support a loved one with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD). Family members play a vital role in the lives of children with IDD, often becoming advocates for education, inclusion, and services. Every month, we will feature a parent or family member who has shown incredible advocacy skills related to special education. Our February Education Advocate of the Month is Rebecca Casey! We asked Rebecca about her experience as an advocate, see her responses below. |

Mondays with Michael on Facebook Live |

Our Facebook Live series "Mondays with Michael" concluded its 3-part miniseries on parental rights in special education. Some of our upcoming episodes will include discussions about mediation and due process, and the different related services that students with IEPs may be eligible for.

2023 Connections for the Future Scholarship |
Graduating public school seniors with disabilities (IEP or 504 Plan) from Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union, Warren, or Sussex County can apply for a scholarship of up to $1,000.
The scholarship is designed to help students pursue post-secondary education, training, and other life-enhancing opportunities. Students do NOT need to be going to college.

Stanford startup TranscribeGlass seeks to bring ease and affordability to assistive technology |
"Meet TranscribeGlass, an affordable AR device that attaches to your glasses and, paired with your transcription software of choice, projects real-time captions in front of your eyes.
The device comes from CEO and co-founder Madhav Lavakare, Yale ’25, and co-founder Tom Pritsky M.S. ’23. Both students have close ties to the world of assistive tech and independently pursued the idea before joining forces in 2021."
