Pastor's Corner

Dear St. Martin's Family,

Many of you worshipped at the noontime service and I'm sure many others plan to attend the community ecumenical Ash Wednesday service at Calvary United Methodist on Rowe Blvd at 7 pm.

As we begin these holy 40 days of our Lenten journey, I commend to you words from Pope Francis that I shared at the service today. There's a lot of wisdom in these words so may we all take them to heart and put them in action!

I am so thankful for all of you and wish you a blessed season as we move forward together.

In the words of Pope Francis: Do you want to fast this Lent?

  • Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
  • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
  • Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
  • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
  • Fast from worries and trust in God.
  • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
  • Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
  • Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy.
  • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
  • Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
  • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

In His Love and Service,

Pastor Dave

Trip to Greece

There's still time to sign up for the trip to Greece in the Footsteps of St. Paul, led by Pastor Dave and Sandy in late June! If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Pastor Dave soon. This will be a very special opportunity to learn more about God's love and the ancient world. Of course, participants will come to know Paul, his companions, and congregations in new and exciting ways that will deepen our understanding of the New Testament. Along the way, tour participants will worship together, visit some of the most beautiful places on earth, and experience the joy of growing in friendship! Lighthouse Shelter Repairs

The Thursday Morning Ladies Bible Study group has taken the challenge to help our neighbors at the Lighthouse Shelter, after storms last month damaged and closed the shelter.

Partnering with Thrivent, we have set up a fund to help restore this facility and its services. Today I invite you to join us. As you are able, please send your contribution to St. Martin’s and label it for the Lighthouse Shelter Crisis Repair Fund.   - Thank You!

Volunteers Needed

Looking for an opportunity to serve our friends at the Lighthouse Shelter? St. Martin’s members provide dinner on the second Monday of the month. Since we plan to serve 65 folks, it’s the perfect opportunity to ask a fellow member or friend to join with you to share the “load.”

We have the months of June, July, and August open, so I urge you to check your summer schedule and plan now. A sign-up sheet can be found on the bulletin board across from the church office.

If you would like to have more information, I can answer your questions and/or send the PDF composed by the Lighthouse staff.

My email is sourisson1006@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you. See you in church!  Sandy Ourisson

Sheets Needed!

Our quilting group is in need of solid sheets, especially white ones.

If you have any gently used sheets that you would like to donate, please drop them off to the church office.

Thank you!

Worship Assistants Needed

If you are interested in assisting in worship, please contact Linda Wetz at buildingmanager@stmartinsonline.org or 410-271-8989.
