HOLIDAY SEASON FUN FACT: pumpkin
Q: What makes the season's most hotly contested beverage, the Pumpkin Spice Latte (known to hipsters as PSL), taste so incredible?

A: Probably not much of Grandma's home-baked goodness.

Though widely recognized for its mouthwatering and warm-memory-inducing pumpkin pie flavor, the PSL gets less than 11% of its iconic flavor from the actual   spices that go into Grandma's pumpkin pie.  And guess what: real pumpkin, itself, fares even worse, contributing even less than the spices to the signature taste of this hot brew.

Drawing on the research of the Institute of Food Technologists' food scientist, Kantha Shelke, Business Insider dove in to find out "how the  PSL manages to taste like pumpkin pie when it has so little of makes pumpkin pie so awesome?"

As usual, the answer? Science.  Check out the flavor profile breakdown below.
