Welcome to DairyTrace TagTips - quick tips, helpful hints and FAQs to help you understand the most efficient ways to use your traceability tools.

Need to report a movement event but don't have the PID?

Firstly, it's recommended that you authorize the inclusion of your PID in the PID search tool for DairyTrace users. This will help make it easier for other DairyTrace users to easily access PID details for accurate movement reporting.

If an animal is arriving to your farm from another dairy farm that has a DairyTrace account, you may be able to find the PID in the public premises search in the portal. See below for instructions.

If the PID is not searchable in the DairyTrace portal, you will have to contact the previous owner/operator to obtain the PID required for reporting all your move-in events.

Premises ID (PID) is key to traceability as it tracks the movement of animals between locations, each with a unique premises identification number.

Note: If you don’t have the premises identification number when reporting a move-out, you can include the address of the premises instead. This function also applies to reporting imports and exports.

Here’s how to use the public premises search in the DairyTrace portal:

  •  From the Welcome screen, click Submit an event, then choose the type of event you want to report from the dropdown menu.
  • Go to Public Premises Search via the tab along the top, or click Find premises number.
  • Choose to search based on the Account/Farmer Info or by the Premises Info.
  • If you have the address of the premise, choose to search by Premises Info.

  • Hint: Click on the 'i' for helpful tricks when using the search filters to find what you need.
  • If the search finds the PID you need, click the green plus to add it to your address book. Note: If the PID is already in your address book, you will see a green flag icon instead of the green plus.

  • Enter a description of the PID to save it to your address book.
  • The PID is now saved in your address book so you can easily complete move-in events coming from this location. Note: These PIDs from the public search are only visible to DairyTrace users.
