Board Meeting Update

Dear Tahoe Cedars Water Customers,

We are writing to share an upcoming TCPUD Board item related to the Tahoe Cedars Water System Reconstruction Project, specifically the relocation of customer-owned water service lines.

Many Tahoe Cedars customers have an existing water service line that connects through a backyard alignment. As part of the project, these backyard connections will need to be relocated to connect to new water mains that will be installed in the streets.

The Tahoe Cedars Water System was originally constructed in the 1940s and is actively failing. The Reconstruction Project will provide secure and reliable drinking water and improved fire protection within the Tahoe Cedars service area.

The Tahoe Cedars Water System Reconstruction Project will replace aging and failing pipes like the one pictured above.

Upcoming Board Meeting

Following the first review of this item at the July board meeting, the TCPUD Board of Directors will review, hear public comment, and consider adopting Resolution 25-20 related to this topic at their regular meeting on:

  • Friday, August 15 at 8:30 a.m. - Following the Board's review and public input, the final Resolution regarding property owner responsibility for service line relocations is expected to be adopted at this meeting.

We welcome attendance and public comment either in-person at 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City, CA, or online via Zoom. The entire agenda and virtual attendance instructions are posted online at www.tcpud.org/meetings

The specific agenda item with the final Resolution and supporting documents is available here.

If you are unable to attend the meeting but would still like to provide comments to the Board, please email your comments to the TCPUD District Clerk at tviehmann@tcpud.org. Comments must be received by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th to be included in the board packet.

About Customer Service Line Relocations

We appreciate your patience as we work to rebuild and improve your water system.

As part of the project, existing backyard water mains will be abandoned and replaced with new water mains in the streets. Property owners with backyard water connections will be responsible for relocating their service lines to connect to the new water mains.

We continue to develop project timelines, guidance for permitting, and technical resources to assist relocation customers. The TCPUD Board also directed staff to explore possible customer financing options for service relocations. We will share information as it becomes available.

Project Timeline and Next Steps

Customers will see crews from our design and contractor team, Granite-DOWL, in the neighborhood this summer completing fieldwork and underground investigations to support the design.

The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in 2026. The location(s) for the 2026 construction phase are still being determined. We expect this project will involve multiple construction phases over the next four to five years.
