Trail Naming Ceremony Honors the Late Senator Dianne Feinstein’s Environmental Legacy

TCPUD was honored to join local, state, and federal leaders gathered in Tahoe City to honor the late U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and her remarkable environmental legacy in the Lake Tahoe Basin. In a special ceremony, the West Shore Trail was officially renamed the Dianne Feinstein West Shore Tahoe Trail.

The event featured moving remarks from U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, TCPUD Board President Judy Friedman, TRPA Executive Director Julie Regan, Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson, and Feinstein’s granddaughter, Eileen Mariano. Each shared personal stories about Senator Feinstein’s vision, determination, and decades-long commitment to protecting Lake Tahoe.

More than 100 attendees joined the celebration, unveiling a commemorative sign and participating in a group bike ride to Hurricane Bay. The ceremony was a fitting tribute to Feinstein’s dream of a bike trail around the lake.

The 12-mile trail, owned and maintained by TCPUD, connects Tahoe City to Meeks Bay and serves as both a recreational asset and a key transportation link for the West Shore.

Tahoe City PUD joins new state-wide wildfire coalition

Our Director of Strategic Affairs, Kim Boyd, recently sat down with the Sierra Sun to talk about TCPUD joining the new Wildfire Solutions Coalition and what it means for our community.

TCPUD is excited to be a member of this statewide coalition, a collaboration of over two dozen agencies and organizations committed to securing long term, sustainable funding for wildfire resilience in California.

Kim highlighted TCPUD’s focus on the vital role of water systems in firefighting.

Construction Updates

Trail upgrades make steady progress

We’re making great progress on reconstructing the iconic Dianne Feinstein West Shore Tahoe Trail. Work is complete from Idlewild Way to Elizabeth Williams Park, and will now begin work on repaving the Hurricane Bay section.

The trail will remain open Fridays through Sunday, with construction closures Mondays through Thursdays.

Heavy machinery will be on trail in construction areas. Please stay safe and respect trail closures.

West Lake Tahoe Water Treatment Plant now delivering water

We're thrilled to announce the new West Lake Water Treatment Plant is now delivering water to the distribution system. The plant is initially delivering water to customers in the McKinney/Quail system between Homewood and Tahoma. In the future, the plant will deliver water to over 2,400 customers on the west shore from Timberland to Tahoma.

The new plant replaces a temporary seasonal facility and provides year-round water supply sourced directly from Lake Tahoe.

The project strengthens the public water supply, improves fire protection, and builds long-term resilience across TCPUD’s interconnected water systems.

We're planning to host public tours of the Water Treatment plant in the future. Sign up for the tour interest list below.

Golf Course Irrigation Project in the final stretch

Our new irrigation system at Tahoe City Golf Course is a thing of beauty. Efficient, precise, and designed to keep the greens looking their best all season long.

With the touch of a button, our team can now remotely control individual sprinklers to improve turf coverage and help us use water more wisely.

The upgrades are in their final stretch and we’re optimistic the entire system will be finished by early September.

Test Your Tank Trivia

In 2018, we finished completion of our new Bunker Tank replacement.

The project replaced an outdated 500,000-gallon redwood tank first built in the 1960s with a significantly larger, modern storage tank.

How many gallons can the new Bunker Tank hold?
