West Lake Tahoe Regional

Water Treatment Plant

After several years of planning and design, the TCPUD awarded a contract to Thompson Builders Corporation in May 2021 for construction of the West Lake Tahoe Regional Water Treatment Plant Project. The new water treatment plant will be located at 275 Lodge Drive in Tahoma.

This new, advanced microfiltration surface water treatment plant will become the primary source of drinking water to the McKinney-Quail Water Service Area, and replaces an existing temporary, seasonal treatment facility. The new facility will provide a permanent, all-season, reliable, and drought-resistant drinking water source. It will also have the capacity to provide water to other systems along Lake Tahoe’s west shore, resulting in a coordinated regional solution for drinking water and fire protection.

North Lake Tahoe Active Recreation Facility Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study

In the summer of 2020, TCPUD partnered with the North Tahoe Public Utility District to launch a community-wide effort to assess the needs and desires for the future of active recreation in North Lake Tahoe. Over 600 community members participated in the assessment expressing a resounding appreciation for the active recreation activities and programs currently offered. The community feedback demonstrated a strong interest in building a recreation center and indoor swimming pool. Additional priorities included maintenance and upgrades to existing sports fields and courts, a new skate park, and a new covered ice rink.

Phase 2 of this project is now underway. A multi-faceted technical consultant team led by Design Workshop will assess existing facilities and examine potential sites for new facilities. The analysis will also evaluate conceptual operating models and costs, existing and future use patterns, revenue streams and funding mechanisms in order to understand the feasibility of constructing new and/or improved recreational facilities.

Every Drop Counts. Use Water Wisely

The TCPUD is committed to Making Water Conservation a Regular Way of Life and have responded to California’s severe drought conditions and the increasing demand on TCPUD’s water supply.

As of September 1, 2021, all TCPUD water service areas entered TCPUD’s Drought Response Stage 2, which require customer water conservation measures, including a mandatory 15% reduction in water use as compared to 2020.

Implementing water conservation measures is an environmentally sound way to protect and conserve our water resources and ensure the continued supply and reliability of drinking water as well as providing water capacity for fire-fighting efforts.

Tahoe Cross Country Lodge

The TCPUD has a long partnership with the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) who have run the Tahoe XC Center for over 20 years. The recreation amenities provided by the TCCSEA to the community and our local youth athletes are invaluable.

In 2015, the TCCSEA accepted the donation of a historic residence, the Schilling House, and embarked on a robust and comprehensive effort to relocate and replace the existing lodge facility with a new and improved Tahoe XC Lodge.

The plan to rebuild the Tahoe XC Lodge on a new site next to the North Tahoe High School is entering the final design and permitting stage, with a 2-year construction schedule planned to begin in 2023. The new Tahoe XC Lodge will be designed and operated in a way that minimizes its impacts on neighbors.

The Project will provide many community benefits, including:

Improved experience of winter skiing and summer hiking and biking activities.
Quality amenities for guests, including: a larger lounge, rental shop, retail store, café, first aid room, and space for student athletes.
Inviting indoor and outdoor community space.
Improved traffic flow and parking.

The existing trail system and adjacent trails on state property will be more easily accessible from the new facility.
