You’ve heard the name Patagonia, albeit from the clothing brand, most likely. So, let us introduce you to the geographic region of Chile that is one of the most beautiful places on earth (behind Tahoe, of course). And say hello to our Chilean environmental partner organization that is leveraging science and stakeholder collaboration to preserve a unique string of 23 lakes in northern Patagonia.
Chile Lagos Limpios, or Chile Clean Lakes, is working to ensure a sustainable balance between the environment, economic development and the community in the Patagonian lakes district of Chile.
Because of the similarities between Chile’s lakes and our own Big Blue, the League's lessons in protecting Lake Tahoe – both what has worked and what hasn't – have become a model for preserving the northern Patagonian lakes.
Over the past four years, the League has been honored to share our six decades of experience in lake conservation with Nano Coz, Executive Director of Chile Lagos Limpios, along with our friends at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
The League and Chile Lagos Limpios in Lake Tahoe.
Like we always say, it takes collaboration to protect our natural treasures for future generations to enjoy. The League is sharing our knowledge and history, and spanning continental divides to get it done.
