MEMBER NOTICE: IAEP Calls on Members for Action 

What happens when your business becomes an IAEP Partner? You'll be recognized as an environmental leader in your community. Your customers will understand the proactive commitment you make to their long term success. And you'll be joining together with other Agribusiness Association of Iowa Members to show the positive impact agribusinesses have on the environment every day.

AAI launched the partnership to advance environmental progress and more clearly identify the important environmental principles in agronomic management - the same principles you use to help your customers make informed decisions about how they manage their crops.

Mailings and emails have been sent out to voting members with information on how to sign up for the Iowa Agribusiness Environmental Partnership (IAEP).

Nurse Tank Workshop Registration Closes August 22

The association works with US Department of Transpiration to provide you with accurate information on becoming qualified to test your company's tanks at your facilities. Interested parties can register for the August 29 workshop three different ways:

Committee Meeting Wrap-ups

Membership Committee
The AAI membership committee met by conference call o n August 10. Committee chair Mike Mollenbeck from River Valley Coop lead the meeting with membership director Reilly Vaughan. Discussion revolved around member retention, review of dues, and the goals for 2018. Dues will be mailed to all members in September 2017.

Showcase Planning Committee 
SAVE THE DATE - FEBRUARY 13-14, 2018
The Agribusiness Showcase & Conference planning committee met Thursday, August 17 at the AAI office in Des Moines to discuss the upcoming event in February. The planning committee reviewed the two-day schedule and speakers for the conference. Attendees included Rob Denson, DMACC, Nate Sutton, Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc., Jeff Hoeman, Calcium Products, Chris Irwin, AMVAC, and AAI staff members.

Two-Day Workshop Wraps Up in Altoona

The annual two-day grain grading workshops wrapped up Wednesday in Altoona at the Ziegler CAT facility. Each class was at maximum capacity. The association brings in the  Federal Grain Inspection Service inspectors from the National Grain Center to direct the class. Thanks to all that attended!

At the Iowa State fair, farmers proven to be good stewards of the land were awarded the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award.

Farmer John Clayton was one of the 81 recipients this year. He farms in Shelby, Cass, and Pottawattamie counties. After 30 years, he says it's encouraging to see conservation practices work like they're supposed to.

But Clayton has one big motivation in implementing no-till, buffer strips, and water ways, "We just want to keep it the way we started. We want to leave the land like we got it. So, that was our biggest motivation there." Read More

VDI Advances Higher Ed Agricultural and Engineering Programs

Agriculture today is a high-tech business, and  Iowa State University's Department of Agronomy is training the next generation of agribusiness professionals to fit right in.

Students analyze crop data gathered by drones using professional-grade applications for 3D modeling and geospatial analyses. The goal: find ways to boost crop yields in the United States, Africa and elsewhere.

Students and faculty don't rely on expensive workstations to run these power-hungry, graphics-intensive programs. Instead, they fire up personal laptops or use university-supplied thin clients to log in to a secure portal. Read More

FS Bioenergia Starts Up Corn Ethanol Production in Brazil

Brazil's first corn ethanol project is an international collaboration that will introduce new feed options to livestock industry.

A grand opening was held this past week signaling the start of operations at FS Bioenergia, a $115 million, world-class, corn-only ethanol production facility located in Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

FS Bioenergia is the first large-scale corn ethanol production plant in Brazil and is the result of an international collaboration between Brazilian agribusiness Fiagril and U.S.-based Summit Agricultural Group headquartered in Alden, Iowa. Read More
