New INREC Liaison Added to Northwest Region

A new regional liaison has been hired by INREC to serve NW Iowa.

Dave Hansen is a retired army veteran and has worked in agriculture for decades in Iowa and Minnesota. He  currently lives in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Hansen previously worked for Ziegler Ag since 1998, most recently in Minnesota managing   ag  equipment sales.

The INREC liaisons have been making contacts with CEOs, GMs, and others to help facilitate data acquisition needed to provide an accurate view of the efforts of Iowa farmers and retailers to implement conservation practices and tell the story of agricultural stewardship.

Agribusiness Showcase & Conference Committee Meeting 

Tuesday, December 19, the Showcase Committee met at the AAI home office in Des Moines to finalize details on the upcoming conference. 

Attending committee members talked about sponsors, show schedules, speakers, and logistics. An Ag Industry & Crop Management Conference report was given by Joan O'Brien. A full program is now available online and registrations are filling up at a steady pace. The 2018 schedule can be viewed here.

An exhibitor registration report was given by Reilly Vaughan. The early bird deadline has passed for discounts. Exhibitor booth reservations is at an annual high. The ASC plans to release booth assignments after Jan. 5, 2018 and exhibitor vouchers will be sent to current exhibitors in December. Exhibitors can still register booth spaces at standard show prices (member discounts available ) here .

Career Day Subcommittee Chair Joe Thelen reported on the 2018  Agribusiness Career Day (ABC Day) developments. A subcommittee meeting was held on December 5. The 2018 ABC Day schedule has been finalized and student registration is open. We would like to thank the participation of Rob Denson, DMACC President, and Dave Harper, Ag Instructor at Kirkwood Community College for their contributions to the committee on behalf of the Iowa Community Colleges.

FMCSA's Agriculture ELD Waiver and Proposed Regulatory Guidance

December 18, 2017 - marked the Congressionally mandated electronic logging device (ELD) compliance deadline which requires commercial vehicle drivers who are required to prepare hours-of-service (HOS) records of duty status to use ELDs. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently published: 1) a limited 90-day waiver from the Federal HOS regulations pertaining to electronic logging devices (ELDs) for the transportation of agricultural commodities; and 2) proposed regulatory guidance concerning the transportation of agricultural commodities.

SE Iowa Soybean Producer Named President of ASA

John Heisdorffer, a soybean producer from Keota in southeast Iowa, is the new president of the American Soybean Association. He previously served as vice president, and has served on the ASA board of directors since 2010. He and his family also raise corn and finish 10,000 head of hogs a year.

Heisdorffer farms with son Chris. John and wife Deanna have three children: Lisa, Jody and Chris. John served on the Iowa Soybean Association board and in various committees for 20 years. He also served on the National Biodiesel Board from 1996 to 2004 and now serves as president of the NBB Foundation. Heisdorffer also served on the local co-op board and his church council. Read More

President Trump to Speak at Farm Bureau Annual Meeting

The American Farm Bureau Federation announced Tuesday that President Donald Trump will address the group's annual convention in early January in Nashville, Tennessee.

Trump will be the first sitting president to address the Farm Bureau annual meeting since 1992 when President George H.W. Bush spoke to the organization. Read More
