Reynolds Hails the Value of Agriculture in Iowa

During the Agribusiness Showcase and Conference on Wednesday, February 15, during the All Industry Luncheon, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds provided a litany of reasons why agriculture is important to Iowa and praised the ag business leaders in attendance for their contributions to the economy.  Reynolds provided a key note address to a crowd of well over 200.

Following her comments, Reynolds spoke briefly to a full room of 200 community college students and 20 instructors during the Agribusiness Career Day hosted by the Agribusiness Association of Iowa Foundation. She encouraged the students to stay in Iowa where good jobs await them. And urged the group to always reach high in ag, there are many opportunities. 

FieldWatch Recognizes Leadership, Collaborative Efforts of Agribusiness Association of Iowa 
Collaboration and stewardship were key topics at the FieldWatch annual meeting this week as FieldWatch CEO Stephanie Regagnon presented the Agribusiness Association of Iowa with an award for leadership.

Twelve different companies and associations worked together to provide funding for provide the initial purchase and setup of the FieldWatch sensitive crop and bee hive registries in Iowa. The donations came through the Agribusiness Association of Iowa Foundation from the Iowa Agriculture Aviation Association, Syngenta Crop Protection, Dow AgroScience, GROWMARK Foundation, Monsanto, BASF, Bayer CropScience, Iowa Wine Growers Association, Crop Production Services, Inc., Helena Chemical, and Meridian Agriculture.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is encouraging producers with sensitive crops or bee hives to register their field and hive locations using FieldWatch, and encouraging pesticide applicators to use the free system in their application planning. The FieldWatch online tool is provided to help facilitate communication between commercial applicators and those growing sensitive crops. The collaborative tool is being used in 14 states across the US.

AAI Foundation Presents $15,000 In Scholarships to Community College Students at 2017 ASC

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa (AAI) Foundation is honored and pleased to have presented 15 community college students with a $1,000 scholarship to their respective schools during the Agribusiness Career Day (ABC Day) on February 15 in conjunction with the 2017 Agribusiness Showcase & Conference (ASC) in Des Moines, IA.

During the event, students heard from industry speakers including Carol Balvanz, Policy Director with Iowa Soy and Raelene Maas, HR with Growmark FS. The 2017 keynote speaker brought energy and positivity to the students. Damian Mason is an agriculturalist and a professional speaker. He gave the students and other attendees his take on the ag world, and not just from an Iowa perspective.

Secretary's Iowa Ag Leader Awards Presented at the Agribusiness Showcase

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced two agribusinesses and two Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) as recipients of the Secretary's Iowa Ag Leader Award for outstanding leadership  in improving Iowa's water quality.
