Cover Crop and Soil Health Field Day Near Webster City

Iowa Learning Farms, in partnership with Prairie Rivers of Iowa, will host a cover crop and soil health field day Tuesday, June 13th. The 5:00-7:00 p.m. field day will be held at Larry Haren's farm, rural Webster City.  The field day is free and open to the public and includes a complimentary meal.

Reynolds to Lead all Iowa Ag Trade Mission to China

Iowa's new governor will lead an all Iowa agriculture trade mission to China in July. This is the sixth time Governor Kim Reynolds has been to China but the first time all of Iowa's farm groups have come together. Reynolds, eight commodity groups, and the Iowa Farm Bureau will travel to China July 19-28. The group will visit the cities of Shanghai, Shiyan, and Beijing. Read More

Accepting Applications for Feed Facility of the Year

The American Feed Industry Association is now accepting applications for the 2017 Feed Facility of the YearThe program, sponsored by AFIA and Feedstuffs, is designed to be a world-class benchmarking program for the animal food industry. 

Applications are due by Sept. 1, along with an application fee of $50 for AFIA members and $250 for non-members. 

White Paper Looks at NAFTA Impact

On May 18th, the congressional committees that oversee  trade were told that the Trump Administration wants to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which started a 90 day window.

NAFTA is now 23 years old, in that time, all trade to Canada and Mexico have increased to a third of U.S. exports to the world, totaling half a trillion dollars in 2016.

There have been winners and losers in the trade deal, but Neil Dierks, CEO of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) says agriculture has benefited a lot from free trade, "Our sector has done well with NAFTA and we don't need any changes to our sector, to the pork industry. And I believe generally speaking, most agricultural products, what exists today is desirable." Read More
