Changes For Iowa Grain Dealers & Warehouses

Iowa grain warehouse and grain dealer license holders were sent a letter this week from the Grain Warehouse Bureau calling attention to changes made in grain laws during the recent legislative session.

The letter highlights the following:

• As of June 2, either unqualified audits or reviewed financial statements for grain warehouses can be submitted.
• Businesses offering credit sale contracts have additional requirements when providing reviewed statements.
• The unqualified audit requirement is waived for licensees that had previously received an extension due to law changes in 2025.
• Effective July 1, 2026, the credit sale contract acknowledgement must be printed on all credit sale contracts directly above the signatures and may no longer be supplied as a supplement to the contract.

The new regulations from the 2026 legislative session were discussed last week at the AAI Grain Committee meeting. The committee reviewed the impacts of the updated law and made policy recommendations to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for implementation of the law changes.

Roundtable Discusses Importance of Renewing USMCA

At World Pork Expo this week, Agribusiness Association of Iowa CEO Julie Kenney joined Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and leaders from the National Pork Producers Council, American Soybean Association, and Iowa Farm Bureau to discuss the importance of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The roundtable was hosted by Farmers for Free Trade.

Mexico and Canada are the largest trading partners for the U.S., accounting for billions of dollars in exports of Iowa ag products. The USMCA is up for renewal in July. A full 16-year renewal of USMCA would build on the agreement’s success and provide certainty for investment and growth for farmers and ag businesses.

Winton Etchen Scholarship - Application Period Open Through July 15

AAI member businesses are encouraged to share this opportunity with recent high school graduates in their communities who qualify.

Iowa students enrolled in an agriculture-related curriculum at Iowa State University are eligible to apply for the Winton Etchen Scholarship.

The goal of this scholarship is to identify, recognize, and encourage outstanding students who plan careers in agriculture and/or a related field. The scholarship is named in honor of Winton Etchen, who was the executive director of the Iowa Fertilizer and Chemical Association from 1964-1988.

Qualifying scholarship applicants will be enrolled in an agriculture-related curriculum, attend Iowa State University, and be legal residents of the State of Iowa. Applicants must be sponsored by a member of the Agribusiness Association of Iowa. Each year’s successful applicant is awarded $1,000 and is eligible to receive $250 for each of the next three years.

Applications are due by July 15, 2026.

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa is partnering with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to provide a Nurse Tank Testing Workshop on June 30.

The workshop is led by FMCSA and covers in detail the federal code related to nurse tanks. This is tailored for facilities that test their own nurse tanks or are planning to become certified to test, while also providing a broader discussion of nurse tank handling to help facilities stay compliant.

Registration for this workshop is limited to 50 people.
