AAI Environment & Agronomy Committees Hold Joint Meeting

The Environment and Agronomy Committees held a joint meeting at the Monsanto Huxley Learning Center in Huxley. 

Shawn Richmond, AAI Environmental Technology Director discussed the INREC research projects with ISU and the INREC progress measures project. A CDL update was given by Reilly Vaughan, AAI Membership Director. 

Clyde Martin Passed Sept 25, 2017

Clyde was born on November 18, 1942 and passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017.  Clyde  was a resident of Palmetto, Florida at the time of passing. 

Clyde was a long time member of the  Iowa Fertilizer & Chemical Association and served on the board from 1987-89. Then of Martin Ag Service, Inc. in Preston, IA, Clyde served on the Transportation Committee from 1981-83, Legilsative Committee from 1983-1987, he became the Vice Chair in 1984. Clyde was elected to the board director in 1987, then moved to Vice President in 1988, and was IFCA President in 1989. 

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Iowa Ag Leaders Encouraged to Consider Applying for Nuffield International Scholarship

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today encouraged Iowa farmers and agribusiness professionals to consider applying for a Nuffield International Scholarship.  The program allows participants to travel internationally for a minimum of 16 weeks, researching agricultural production, distribution, management and/or communication.

A Nuffield International Scholarship supported by the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Pork Producers Association, National Pork Board and Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is open specifically for those involved in Iowa agriculture.

The application deadline for this scholarship is October 31, 2017.  More information about the application process can be found at  http://nuffieldinternational.org.

AMVAC Acquires OHP Inc., Expands Non-Crop Business

American Vanguard Corp. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary AMVAC Chemical Corporation will acquire OHP, Inc.

OHP is a leading provider of technology-based pesticide solutions specifically packaged and labeled for greenhouse and nursery production applications. Products are marketed utilizing a network of leading distribution partners throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.The parties expect that the transaction will close on Oct. 2, 2017.

OHP will continue to operate as it has in the past. It will maintain the OHP, Inc. name, its products will continue to be marketed under OHP brands, and the business will remain under the leadership of Dan Stahl, OHP General Manager. The OHP team will continue to sell OHP's existing portfolio and service its current and future customers.  Read More

Senator Ernst Introduces Bill to Promote Ag Exports

Senator Joni Ernst along with three other senators introduces legislation to help promote Ag exports.

U.S. Senators Ernst (R-Iowa), Agnus King (I-ME), Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the Cultivating Revitalization by Expanding American Agricultural Trade and Exports, or CREAATE, Act Tuesday. Ernst says the bill increases funding to successful U.S. Department of Agriculture export promotion programs.

"Our state relies heavily on exports," Ernst said in an interview with the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network. "One in five jobs is tied directly to trade. We felt this was really important to bring up this idea and really promote export products and continue to have strength all around the globe."  Read More
