A TURN for the Better
We are all teed up and ready to swing through 2018 with a newsletter campaign dedicated entirely to the golfer's PIVOT.
So what is the pivot?
The pivot of the golf swing involves the weight shift of the body while the trunk rotates around the spine. From the ground up, the five major body components that directly affect the pivot are the:
- feet
- knees
- hips
- shoulders
- head
For the purpose of this year-long golf lesson, we will eliminate any discussion of the role played by the hands and the arms in the golf swing, which I do so appreciate, and intentionally focus on the how big muscles move small muscles.
To entertain and educate you each month, expect upcoming tips to include pressure mapping, indoor fitness, outdoor full swing drills, and thorough explanations of the Big 5 components of the pivot. As always, our tips will be showcased on social media, so be sure to like us on Facebook and follow along. You can also find additional tips in past seasons' informative newsletters archived on
www.classicswing.com
.
Now, a sound fundamental pivot requires a good set-up as its foundation and this begins with what we call the golfer's POSTURE.
The following pictures illustrate the dos and don'ts of proper posture. It all begins with a good set-up and firm understanding that the spine is the axis around which we will rotate.

A Curved Axis -
NOT GOOD!

Sitting on A Barstool -
EVEN WORSE!

YES!! Time to dive in and get started!

Next month we will discuss how to get to picture 3 and its importance. Until then note the slight knee flex, healthy waist bend, and alignment of the hips over the ankles with shoulders slightly outside the toes.
Let's TURN 2018 into a Happy New Year!
