Governor Ralph Northam is attacking your local cigar shop and doubling your cigar tax. Multiple Virginia legislators proposed cigar tax increases in this year's General Assembly; however, all of the legislation has been defeated or tabled for later years' review. But Governor Northam is proceeding on his own with his state budget by increasing the OTP tax by 100%. He is refusing to remove the increase.
Governor Northam's tax increase proposal during this stressful time, represents an attack on consumers, and is tantamount to a cash grab from the most vulnerable small businesses during this national pandemic.
