Way to Go Weathering Together!

Congrats, Weathering Together, our 140th Climate Action Team. This team included 12 people from Larkspur, Novato, and San Rafael. Team members joined forces to take some impactful actions!

Brooke enjoyed learning about local resources and rebate programs—such as QuitCarbon, free water consultations from the water districts, and county electrification support programs. She appreciated reminders about small actions like reducing phantom energy use and learned more about the impact of food waste. The workshop helped her start planning for larger future changes and made the sometimes overwhelming task of home electrification feel more manageable.

Diane is committed to eating more organic, plant-based, and locally sourced food since it is better for both health and the environment! She is also exploring future home

electrification upgrades, including

replacing aging appliances and transitioning to induction cooking.

Heidi now better understands the size of individuals’ carbon footprints and is inspired to make lifestyle changes, including reducing air travel! She appreciated having practical reminders and tools to keep sustainability goals visible in daily life.

Javier is planting 30 trees and getting a portable induction cooktop, which allows him, as a renter, to reduce cooking with gas. He is also unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use to avoid the phantom energy use, and inspiring others to start composting!

The workshop increased the team's awareness of the environmental impact of daily habits and empowered them to make positive changes.

Thank you, Weather Together! (And for having one of the best team pictures!)

"This program is helpful and impactful for any community member to participate in. I appreciate learning actionable ways we can increase our climate resilience, live more sustainable lives, and increase our personal preparedness. I've updated my action plan with my short-term and long-term goals. I've also updated my go-bag and used your forms to improve our household emergency preparedness plan." Allison Nygaard, The Resilience (Winter 2026)

Congrats to our Waste Webinar Raffle Winner!

Resilient Neighborhoods held our first Sustainable Home Basics: Waste Reduction Made Easy webinar on Wednesday, May 20. The webinar drew strong participation and covered a wide range of practical local resources for reuse, recycling, composting, and repair throughout Marin County.

Participants were entered into a raffle, and Joel Yau of San Rafael won a Zero Waste Marin compost container! If you would like to dive deeper into these topics, join one of our upcoming Climate Action Workshops.

MCE Clean Energy

When the weather gets extreme, your energy use doesn't have to follow suit. You can lower your bill and use cleaner energy by remembering one simple tip: daytime = savings time. 📉⚡️

Abundant solar power provides clean, renewable energy to the grid during the daytime off-peak hours, before 4 p.m. From 4-9 p.m., demand increases, and more expensive gas-fired plants often come online.

Try these tips to keep your house cool during the day.

  • Lower your thermostat to cool your home before 4 p.m. when rates are cheapest, then turn it up to 78°F during peak hours.
  • Use fans to circulate air and lighten the load for your AC.
  • Keep shades and shutters closed during the day to block out heat. At night, open your windows to let in the cross breeze.

Using timers or remote apps can help you manage your consumption effortlessly while keeping the grid green. 🏡💚
