I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is looking forward to more time with family and friends throughout the holiday season.
Once again, our community has lost a leader who will forever be missed. Donald Eugene Mason, simply known as “Don” was a fixture in New Martinsville. He was the epitome of a caring and committed citizen. Don’s long list of accomplishments include serving as the mayor of New Martinsville for two terms, being a member of the Wetzel County Commission for twenty-four years, serving two terms as County Commission President as well as being a member of the Chamber and serving a term as president. Always available with a warm greeting and a smile, you knew that Don was a friend who cared. On behalf of the Wetzel-Tyler Chamber of Commerce we send our deepest condolences to Don’s wife of sixty-four years, Nettie, his children and grandchildren. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves.
As we move further into the holiday season, I hope that everyone will come out into the community and enjoy so many of the activities planned. It’s been a long and hard year. We each need a moment to just take a breath. There are parades throughout the counties; there are numerous festivities, theatre events (The Nutcracker), movies, unique gift items in local stores, great places to eat and just relax. Spend time with family and friends. It’s been far too long since we’ve been able to do that. Remember to stay safe. We still have challenges. But we can do more now and should if you’ve taken the proper precautions. If you have a moment to spare, please consider volunteering your time to a church or to a charity of your choice. A lesson that we can all take from Don is that it’s not always about money. Sometimes it’s about the time and attention that we give to others.
