Shabbat Shalom
April 10 (28 Nisan, 5781)
Dear Friends,

As we navigate our path of personal growth toward Shavuot, I hope that you will enjoy our NEW podcast: How To Become Your Best Self in the Omer. PLUS, I’m excited to let you know that Kesser Israel is planning new Torah learning opportunities for the community. As we do so, we’d like to get your feedback via our community survey. This short survey is quick and easy to fill out, so we hope to hear from you.

This coming week we will mark both Yom HaZikaron as well as Yom Ha’atzamaut (Israel Memorial & Independence Days). I want to invite you to join us this coming Wednesday evening April 14 at 8:30 pm for a Yom Ha’atzmaut Drasha. We will connect via Zoom about the meaning of Israel in our lives, wherever we may live on the globe.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Ken Brodkin

What: Good Deeds Day is an annual tradition of good deeds. All over the world, hundreds of thousands choose to volunteer and help others, putting into practice the simple idea that every single person can do something good, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others and positively change the world.

Since 2013, the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, in partnership with other Jewish as well as secular non-profits, has been hosting Good Deeds Day for the Portland Metro Area.

This year, due to Covid restrictions, we decided to shift from a day of service to highlighting both special, date-specific volunteer opportunities AND opportunities over the next month and beyond for individuals and families to “do good” wherever and however it is safe & meaningful for them.

When: Starting with projects on April 11 specifically as well as other days in April/early May, AND on an ongoing basis, you and yours can volunteer, connect and make a difference locally, virtually—SO many opportunities, family friendly ones, too!

How: Visit our webpage: jewishportland.org/gooddeedsmonth where date specific AND ongoing opportunities are available. Registration may be required by a participating organization so make sure to click through on their organization for full details.

Jewish Free Loan of Greater Portland
Jewish or “Hebrew” Free Loan Associations have been in the business of providing interest-free loans to individuals across North America for over a century. There is a recognition that sometimes life throws a wrench in one’s plans, and that the support of one’s community can make the difference in how that challenge is met.
