Celebrate Black History on a Self-Guided Tour at the California Museum


This February, celebrate Black History Month at the California Museum! With curated tour stops across our signature and temporary exhibits, you'll discover the lasting impact of Black history in the Golden State. Use the self-guided tour map to follow along and get to know trailblazing individuals such as Kamala Harris, Romay Davis, Quincy Jones and more!


This tour is designed for visitors of all ages to explore the Museum at their own pace using a digital or printed map, which is available online or at the Visitor Services desk at the Museum.

NOW OPEN: Our War Too: Women in Service

February 4, 2025 - May 4, 2025


Now on view, Our War Too: Women in Service honors the 350,000 American women who served in WWII. Featuring 200+ artifacts, immersive projections, and narrative films, the exhibit highlights their often-overlooked contributions—including the trailblazing 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the all-Black, all-female unit featured in the recent Netflix film "The Six Triple Eight."

FREE Film Screening: "The Six Triple Eight"

Saturday March 1 from 11 am - 2 pm


Join us for a screening of “The Six Triple Eight,” based on the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the first and only all-Black, all-female battalion deployed overseas. This inspiring unit is featured in Our War Too: Women in Service, on view at the California Museum through May 4, 2025.


This FREE event takes place during Free Museum Weekend (March 1 & 2, 2025). Guests interested in seeing the film and the Our War Too exhibit can do so for free on Saturday, March 1, only.

Film Premiere:

"Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta"

Saturday March 22 from 1 pm - 4:30 pm


Don't miss the premiere of award-winning filmmaker Min Zhou’s documentary “Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta." The film reveals the struggles and resilience of Chinese immigrant women, who faced discrimination both in society and within their own culture. Their untold stories highlight their pivotal role in shaping families, communities, and California’s history.

Northern California Time of Remembrance:

Black Reparations/Reparative Justice

Saturday, February 8 from 1-3 pm


Join us at the California Museum on Saturday, February 8 for the Northern California Time of Remembrance event, presented by local JACL chapters. This year’s program, "Black Reparations/Reparative Justice," features Dr. Cheryl Grills and Don Tamaki, both key voices on the California Reparations Task Force. Through their expertise, explore the history of racial injustice, the fight for reparations, and the path forward toward reconciliation and equity.



Tickets are $15 for general admission and free for college students (with ID) and youth under 18. Don’t miss this powerful discussion on justice and resilience!

California Time Traveler Camp Registration Opens February 18

Session 1: June 23 – June 27, 2025

Session 2: July 7 – July 11, 2025


Perfect for young adventurers ages 6-11, the California Museum’s week-long day camp brings history to life from 9 am to 4 pm every day with interactive tours, hands-on activities, and excursions to nearby sites. Daily itineraries begin on Monday over 150 years ago in pre-statehood California and end on Friday in the near future that California campers will create.


The price per camper is $300. Museum members recieve a 10% discount per time traveler! Learn more about becoming a member here.

Free Museum Weekend

The California Museum is excited to be part of Sacramento Area Museums' FREE Museum Weekend on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2. This popular community event provides free admission with advance registration.

Ticket registration will begin on Monday, February 24 at 9am PST.
