Dear friends:

I’m writing today to encourage you to attend Unlearning Othering: Building Community and Breaking Barriers, a training event planned for June to be hosted by the Wisconsin Conference Racial Justice Ministry Team. The training, open to everyone in the Conference, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 12 at Daycholah Center. Participation will qualify as required anti-racism training for authorized ministers.

Learn more and register.

Anti-racism training is an important step in the long journey of addressing the generations of harm done to those of African and Native descent. As we anticipate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we confess that systemic racism still pervades our society and prevents people of color from realizing our dream – and God’s vision – of full equality.

The work of anti-racism begins with a personal commitment of heart and mind. Because our biases are so deeply embedded in the structures of society, it takes practice and sustained effort to recognize and dismantle them. It requires us to be vulnerable, to take risks, and to be willing to make mistakes and seek forgiveness. But transformation is indeed possible, especially when we engage in anti-racism training together.

Please join us June 12 as we move further down the road toward true racial justice.

In faith and hope,

The Rev. Franz Rigert

Conference Minister
