TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF OUR SHELTER TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW WE ARE RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF SURVIVORS DURING COVID-19
This October - Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we honor the courage and resiliency of survivors who against multiple and unprecedented barriers are creating new lives free from violence for themselves and their children. Little did we know as we completed a renovation project in February 2020 to expand our shelter's capacity from 12 to 16 shelter beds and to add a new office and support group room how quickly these spaces would be occupied. These new beds and rooms have remained at capacity and in high demand throughout the pandemic as incidents of domestic violence continue to escalate to numbers we have never seen in our four decades of offering safe shelter and supportive services.
We are grateful for the support we received from the Gwendolyn Sexton Foundation, Ahmanson Foundation, the City of Glendale Community Development Block Grant, and the Agape Circle of Western Diocese of the Armenian Church that enabled us to make significant strides in upgrading our Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter to be a space of beauty and comfort for survivors who are fleeing violent relationships. We are honored to take you on a tour of this space and to share more about how we are responding to COVID-19 as an essential service and shelter provider.
Providing safe outdoor spaces for families during the pandemic is critical. We are now breaking ground on a new beautification project - landscaping the backyard to provide families with opportunities to garden, play, and enjoy outdoor time together in a safe and green environment.
