Launching the Advocacy Network
Texas Nonprofit Strong Advocacy Network kicked off last week to determine advocacy needs and strategize for the year ahead. Some of the potential policy principles for 2023 we discussed included, additional funding for nonprofits contracted to provide services, investments in critical programs and services that support communities, and promoting volunteerism, charitable giving, and civic engagement. The Advocacy Network will review policy principles that will be presented to policymakers in 2023 and shared via this newsletter in the new year.

This network is comprised of Texas nonprofit professionals committed to educating decision-makers on the issues facing the sector and championing policies that help nonprofits thrive. 40+ organizations statewide have signed up to the Advocacy Network, and we encourage others to join our efforts advocating for a stronger Texas nonprofit sector. Together, our collective voices can drive powerful changes for our respective communities, regions, and for our state.

New report shows COVID-19 disruptions continue for nonprofits
Seven out of 10 (70%) nonprofits responding to a recent Federal Reserve survey of entities that serve low- to moderate-income communities reported an increase in demand for services over the past year, while only 45% said they can meet most of their demand. Barely a third (34%) said they were “well prepared” to face disruptions in the coming year. The survey found inflation, labor shortages, and the availability of child care were top challenges for communities and the organizations serving them.
