A plug-in solar bill will be introduced in the short session next month.

Plug-in solar is small-scale solar that would allow many more households to generate solar energy, including renters, homeowners with shady roofs or roofs that aren’t structurally sound enough for rooftop solar, and homeowners who can’t afford rooftop solar. 

With the recent increases in electricity bills, this will mean a cushion against rising bills. Plug-in solar offsets up to 25% of a household’s electricity use. A law has passed in Utah to allow plug-in solar, and many more states have introduced bills in the last few weeks.

We’ve just learned that early next week, the Oregon bill’s sponsor, Representative Sarah McDonald (D-Corvallis), is expected to present the bill to the Senate Interim Committee on Climate and Environment.

If you support allowing plug-in solar in Oregon, and you live in one of the districts listed at the bottom of this message, please voice your support for the bill by calling or emailing your legislator by Monday at noon if possible.
