This year’s Earth Day theme is perfectly aligned with the mission of OCPA. Our Power, Our Planet is focused on uniting behind renewable energy – with the goal of tripling the global generation of clean electricity by 2030.
OCPA exists to help Orange County lead the way on renewable energy. By increasing access to affordable renewable electricity through sources including wind, solar, and geothermal, OCPA is living the 2025 Earth Day mission every day!
There are boundless ways to take action this Earth Day (April 22) and beyond. Check out the official Earth Action Day website for lots of ideas.

OCPA is excited to launch more community programs that benefit our customers — and we need your input! What programs would help you save energy and money? And what matters to you most when it comes to energy and the environment? Your feedback will help shape our Community Power Plan, ensuring that future programs align with the unique needs of our member communities while advancing sustainability, energy independence, and cost savings.

CalCCA’s Annual Conference Comes to Irvine — and OCPA’s Vice Chair James Mai Will Deliver Opening Remarks | Exciting news! The 2025 California Community Choice Association (CalCCA) Annual Conference is coming to Irvine from April 28–30, bringing over 800 attendees and boosting the local economy while showcasing Orange County’s leadership in renewable energy. This year’s theme, “Powerful Together,” highlights the importance of collaboration in advancing clean energy solutions with discussions on regional strategies, virtual power plants, AI-driven technologies, and funding opportunities. OCPA Board of Directors Vice Chair James Mai will deliver the opening remarks, emphasizing OCPA’s commitment to driving innovation and community-centered energy solutions. | | | |
“Picturing a Better Tomorrow” Youth Art Contest Winners! | Over 100 students across our member cities entered the OCPA “Picturing a Better Tomorrow” art contest. They put pencil and paint to paper to illustrate ways we can protect our planet, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and embrace renewable energy. Their inspiring art provides a vision we can all rally behind! Learn more about a few of our featured artists. | | | |
Meet OCPA’s Energy Programs Manager | Pranesh Venugopal, OCPA Energy Programs Manager, is overseeing both the creation and implementation of our Community Power Plan. Pranesh joined OCPA last November, bringing with him 20 years of experience in energy efficiency, clean transportation, and energy resources. That includes leading the design and launch of community-focused energy programs, such as a novel electric carshare effort in communities of concern. Pranesh will be invaluable as OCPA expands energy programs tailored to meet the needs of Orange County’s diverse communities. | | | |
Save the Date for CicloIrvine, a Car-Free Open Streets Event on May 3 | OCPA is proud to sponsor CicloIrvine, the City of Irvine’s second-annual car-free open streets event taking place on Saturday, May 3. From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m, residents, visitors and businesses will have a once-a-year opportunity to stroll, bike and roll as 1.4 miles of city streets will be closed to cars and open to the public. Experience Irvine’s public spaces and local business in a new and reimagined way with live music, art, and engaging activities for all. | | | |
Local Leaders Gather to Discuss OC Renewable Energy, Sustainability | |
OCPA brought together more than 30 local leaders to discuss renewable energy and sustainability in Orange County, sparking valuable discussion about clean energy solutions and specifically OCPA’s role in reducing Orange County’s carbon footprint.
