You don’t need more anxiety this election season. Take the pressure off: Return your ballot early! While others sweat, you can relax knowing your ballot was counted. Sign up at BallotTrax.net to be notified that your ballot has been received and counted.

Your vote matters so don’t put it off. Make a plan to return your ballot by mail, to a ballot drop box or at a polling place by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tues., Nov. 5.

Is it easy to vote more than once in an election?

No. Multiple procedures detect fraudulent activity so voters only vote once:

• A voter’s activity is logged in the voting history system when they submit their vote by mail ballot or vote in person

• Elections officials count only the first ballot they receive from a voter

• When processing provisional and conditional voter registration ballots, officials check that the voter hasn’t already voted

• VoteCal, the statewide voter registration database, allows officials to ensure voters haven’t voted elsewhere in the state

• Cases where a voter may have tried to vote more than once are reported to the District Attorney and the Secretary of State Fraud Division for investigation and possible prosecution

Election Key Dates

• Oct. 21: voter registration deadline - after this date, you can register in person at the Election Office, at an early voting site or on Election Day at a polling place
• Oct. 29: last day to request a replacement vote-by-mail ballot
• Nov. 1: regional early voting starts
• Nov. 5: Election Day - polling places open 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
• Nov. 12: deadline to receive mailed ballots postmarked on or before Nov. 5
• Dec. 5: election certification deadline
