THE CITY OF UNLEY LIBRARIES
Unley Libraries Online
This week
Ruth
This is my first eNewsletter in a while. I spent most of March staring at world events after having my wisdom teeth out. Many thanks to Amelia, Jake and Jackie for doing a fantastic job through these last couple of months and during these strange times.

The Libraries are physically closed, but trust me, things are happening. Our non-fiction collection is on the move as we will be receiving new carpet for Unley Civic Library and some painting is getting done at both branches.

Most of the collection has now been moved and it looks rather empty.

So where do you put all those books?

On trolleys in the Unley Town Hall.

It's a big job.

This week we offered a trifecta of children's programs with Babytime, Wriggletime and Storytime Online. Scroll down for the videos and don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel to receive updates when we upload a new one.

We have a new Master Building Challenge below. I'm tempted to play with a bit of Lego(TM) myself just for the fun of it. The kids love it when I sit on the floor with them and scrounge through bricks looking for the right one.

Next week I'm hoping to show you a new addition to our Unley Libraries Online offerings, so stay tuned.

Please remember that, should you need any assistance with our online resources, you can get in touch via email [email protected], or phone 8372 5100 during business hours. We want to help.

In Books this Week

Library Information Week is coming up the week 25 - 31 May 2020. This year the theme is 'Create', a topic which is right up my alley.

In response, Libraries SA has put together an ebook collection featuring some wonderfully crafty and arty books for us to play with. Join me in exploring this fabulous resource of inspiration and ideas - Create Collection.

Hmm, crochet, art journalling and mixed media exploration, I could spend some time in there.

Stuck at home, our physical health is something that can suffer, particularly now the wet weather has wandered in - yay for rain, shudders for the cold.

One online fitness instructor who has been recommended to me from several directions is The Body Coach. This gentleman is from the UK, but as part of his everyday TV has been offering PE sessions - PE with Joe - for those kids homeschooling during this period.

He also offers a whole range of resources for all ages and fitness levels, even someone as allergic to exercise as I am. He has become quite popular across the planet in the last month or so. I've had friends on several continents groaning about how good his routines are.

I can't honestly give him a star rating other than I have heard he is very good, so I'm passing on the five stars from a friend in Scotland.

Wriggletime
Wriggletime Outdoors! Sing and dance with us to our favourite songs. Wriggletime is aimed at toddlers who are ready to wriggle, dance and follow along with the actions. Our online sessions for babies and toddlers are designed to give you a sample of our on-site sessions and encourage early literacy, music and movement in your own home.

The videos are released on our YouTube channel on Friday mornings at 10.30am and they feature the familiar faces of our Youth and Children's Team.

Subscribe to this eNewsletter for a weekly update on our services, or alternatively for our videos, you can also subscribe to our YouTube channel where we offer videos for all ages.
This week we also have a Babytime this week! Join Amelia and Caitlin for a wonderful Babytime session online. Aimed at 0-2 years. Spend some time with your baby in your lap and join in the fun.
Daily Moves
Daily Moves is a free supportive physical activity program for adults aged 65 years and above. The program aims to encourage participants to move their bodies daily for 30 minutes. Daily movement, including things like taking out the bins, can go a long way to maintaining independence, preventing frailty, managing chronic pain, keeping us socially connected, lifting our mood, along with many other benefits.

The Daily Moves team have started a YouTube channel showing some easy at-home exercises you can try - new videos will be added each week.

Animal Management Plan 2021-2025
The City of Unley is developing a new Animal Management Plan 2021-2025 and we would like your help in guiding the direction of the Plan. All Councils in South Australia are required under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 to prepare a Plan of Management for dogs and cats every five years.

As part of our public consultation process, we want to know what you think about the planning and management of dogs and cats in the council area. We also want to hear your concerns about other animals such as chickens, bees, and birds.

This survey has been prepared for residents and businesses within the City of Unley, but you don’t need to have a dog or cat to participate in the survey. Please fill in the survey and tell us what’s important to you about dogs, cats and other animals.

Your feedback will help us inform the planning and management of dogs and cats in the city for the next five years.

The survey will only take a few minutes of your time.

(All personal details in the survey will remain confidential)
Draft Tree Strategy

The draft Tree Strategy was recently endorsed for community consultation by Council. We are seeking your input up until the 11 May on our Your Say Unley website.

The Draft Tree Strategy sets a long-term vision for Council and the community to keep Unley leafy for future generations. It considers current and emerging issues, opportunities and trends in our community relating to trees. In addition to managing and maintaining our existing trees, there is a focus on expanding and establishing new trees across the City.
