Buon Giorno!

Well, school is back in session and many parents were kicking their heels down the aisles at Staples. Now that my second child has left for college and one is off in Boot Camp, my youngest said, "Mom, you need a hobby."

Two of my favorite hobbies, reading and wine are right here at Cafe Troia. Our Ladies Wine Club started last week and our Italian Book Club starts soon. I invite you to join me at one or both. We need head counts so please R.S.V.P.

This beautiful weather is perfect for dining al fresco! We have beautiful outdoor dining- the covered deck and the piazza on the lower level with outdoor bar & T.V.  Come check it out for Happy Hour.

Ciao!

Book Club ~ Italian Crime Fiction
Our Book Club will feature Italian crime fiction. Over the course of 10 Monday night sessions, we will  discuss a selection of award winning authors of Italian crime fiction novels and we will watch one of the novels that was made into a film.
The first session was slighted to begin Sept. 21 and runs approximately every three weeks through April 4.  We do need a minimum number to make this work. The first date may be moved back to October if we don't get more people signed up this week.

The Cafe Troia Book Club will kick-off its inaugural season with a meeting on September 21 at the Café. Approximately every three weeks, the group will read and discuss 5 to 7 novels dealing with contemporary Italian crime fiction. Now that the Scandi crime fiction wave has swept ashore in the US, our group leader, Dick Abrams, believes that an Italian book wave will thunder ashore in the next five years, since it seems to be forming now in Europe. Dick has been an avid reader of detective/crime fiction since the early '60s and is particularly interested in the way that this crime fiction deals with current issues, past and present, and one could not find a better laboratory to test this theory than Italy. All the novels selected are in English or have been translated into English, so we can focus on the crime, the detective, and the Italian milieu.

The $100 fee covers the cost of all the books and the direction of Dick Abrams through the 10 sessions.
Book Club members will receive Happy Hour drink prices and may order off the Lite Fare menu.

Ladies of the Vine (Wine Club)

Join us, the second Wednesday of every month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
We will sample 3-4 wines and learn about the different varietals and the region from which they come.

Our reps are sworn to an oath. . . to make this fun! They will impart some "wine wisdom" with grace, and, hopefully, a little humor.  You will find most wine reps have one thing in common. . . they're usually quite charming and entertaining.

This is an exclusive club. . . FOR WOMEN ONLY.  Your other half is more than welcome to hang out in our bar or the dining room during this time but he is not invited to the party!  There will be a $10 fee per meeting.  This includes wine samples and light hors d'oeuvres. All proceeds from these meetings will benefit Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC), a non-profit that feeds the hungry in our community.

Seating will be limited so sign up today.  Call Carol or Lisa 410-337-0133

Wine Tip
Rose wines have become very popular. Each producer chooses what types of grapes to use so there is a huge difference in styles of rose wine. We are currently pouring one that is predominantly syrah.
