The St Joseph High School application fee includes the cost of the entrance exam (if you decided to take the exam at SJ). If you chose to take the exam at SJ, we highly recommend submitting your application before arriving for your entrance exam and no
fee will be charged the morning of.

- Students only take this exam one time.
- Each student may send their exam results to their top three schools of choice within the Diocese of Bridgeport (see list above).
- To register at a different school, please visit their individual websites or contact their admissions offices.
- If you are applying to St Joes, the entrance exam is required to complete your application and it is required if you are seeking an academic scholarship from St Joes. Read more about scholarships and financial aid here!
- The Admissions team will provide an optional admissions information session for parents while students are taking their exam.

The Entrance Exam:
What You Need to Know!
In addition to your
application
, recommendation and report cards the
Entrance Exam
is required to complete your admissions review for St Joseph High School. The HSPT (High School Placement Test) is the
entrance exam
that is used for the high schools within the Diocese of Bridgeport. The entrance exam is a one-time test, which students can take at any of the Diocesan high schools on either October 28 or November 11, 2017. The high schools include:
- St Joseph High School - Trumbull, CT
- Notre Dame Catholic High School - Fairfield, CT
- Kolbe Cathedral High School - Bridgeport, CT
- Immaculate High School - Danbury, CT
- Trinity Catholic High School - Stamford, CT
Your scores can be shared with the schools listed above and you will also receive your score report approximately 15 days after the exam via mail.

Exam Sections & Components
|
|
|
The entrance exam is divided into five areas:
1.) Non Verbal
Measures abstract reasoning skills, based on geometric shapes and figures.
Measures reasoning skills based on the understanding of words.
3.) Reading
Measures vocabulary and reading comprehension, emphasizing sentences and paragraph comprehension. It also tests the ability to find the main idea and draw conclusions from reading passages and inferential and critical comprehension.
4.) Language Arts
Measures usage, grammar, listening, and composition skills.
5.) Mathematics
Measures skills including computation, concepts, and applications of mathematical reasoning to work problems drawn from everyday experiences. Calculators may not be used on the entrance exam.

Students are able to receive extended time for the entrance exam upon receipt and review of official paperwork/testing documentation that grants the student this accommodation. Paperwork must be received at least one week prior to the exam date. Please email

Prepare for the Entrance Exam at St Joes!
During this one weekend course, we help your student build the skills, the confidence, and the stamina to achieve his/her best score. This course is taught by freshmen teachers who have strong knowledge of the strengths of local schools.

Fall 2017 Course Information & Registration
Friday, October 20 from 6:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday, October 21 from 9:00am-1:00pm (two-day course).
- The Course Covers: Basic Math & Algebra, Analogies, Averaging, Exponents, Graphs & Measurements, Fractions & Square Roots, Percents and Ratios, Critical Reading, Grammar, Creative Writing, Verbal Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Testing strategies
- The course cost is $300 (includes a textbook and complimentary t-shirt).
