Greetings!
We get there step by step.
We spent this last Saturday in Santa Monica walking in support of NAMI. The NAMI Walk brings together great people who know that, one step at a time, we can make progress in combating the devastating effects of mental illness. We are proud to again be a sponsor of this walk. We keep making strides at SoCal TMS as well. We are very excited to have opened our third Center located in Dana Point and welcome Dr. Richard Granese as one of our affiliated psychiatrists. A fourth location in collaboration with Community Hospital of Long Beach is expected to open its doors this Fall. Really big strides for TMS were made recently when Anthem Blue Cross, the country's largest commercial insurer, published their coverage policy for TMS, adding this treatment as a benefit for their 34 million insureds. Individuals make strides too. We are pleased to share a brief excerpt of the newly published book, 3000 Pulses. It is one woman's story of her battle with depression and suicide, and the title refers to the 3000 pulses of magnetic stimulation given in a typical TMS treatment. We promise to keep moving forward as there is still a long way to go in treating mental illness. We get there one step at a time. Todd Hutton, MD Medical Director Dr. Hutton is a leading TMS provider in the U.S., and was one of the first 100 psychiatrists to begin practicing TMS following FDA clearance. |

3,000 PULSES
SURVIVING DEPRESSION WITH TMS
"As a senior-level New York advertising executive for 25 years living what appeared to be a perfect life, no one could have been more surprised than I to land in a psychiatric ward after a suicide attempt. 3,000 Pulses is a memoir about my struggle with depression, ineffective medications, and my remarkable recovery with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy. It works. I'm alive, happy, and I'm here to tell the story."
3,000 Pulses is a book about hope for people suffering with Treatment Resistant Depression, as well as for families and health care providers. It is a personal story that provides information about the FDA-cleared alternative therapy TMS and it's safety and efficacy - with no side effects.

"I have enjoyed working with mood disorders especially "refractory depression." I was fortunate to have received extensive ECT training in residency and felt very comfortable incorporating it into my practice. Now we have TMS that is breaking into mainstream psychiatry and I am very excited to be able to offer this to my patients as well. I think that with this new treatment technique, we will be able to offer further options for our patients. I see us just scratching the surface of the full potential of TMS."
- Richard Granese, MD

Efficacy Study on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Published
Southern California TMS Center was one of 42 centers across the US that participated in a clinical trial on TMS and efficacy. This is one of the first studies to look at transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in real-world clinical practice. The researchers at Butler Hospital, along with colleagues across the US, confirmed that TMS is an effective treatment for patients with depression who are unable to find symptom relief through antidepressant medications.
