Dear Friends,
Months into the global pandemic, I think we're all feeling the same thing: exhaustion. It is exhausting to maintain the levels of stress and fear about our health and the health of our loved ones for months on end. This emotional burnout can also cause tensions in our relationships with friends and family, and you've probably noticed greater than usual pressure and shorter tempers in many of the people around you or even in yourself.
This is to be expected. These are not normal times, and we shouldn't expect normal behaviors - from those around us or from ourselves. In this time, I think it's especially important to be kind and patient, to others and to yourself. Take a beat; take a breath. Remind yourself that everyone's doing the very best they can under trying and exhausting circumstances and cut them some slack. We're all in this together.
I hope each and every one of you is staying safe and healthy in these crazy times and hope we'll be able to see each other soon.

Fourth Extension of the Judicial Emergency

Georgia's statewide judicial emergency has now been extended for a fourth time, this time through August 11th. Although most jury proceedings will still be prohibited, the Courts are making concerted efforts to keep making forward progress whenever and wherever possible. Chief Justice Harold Melton has recommended heightened technology use and reinstated many extended deadlines for civil and criminal cases in order to limit the backlog.

As you may know, this year, I am a sponsor of Smith-Gilbert Gardens's butterfly house,
A Garden with Wings
. Open through August 1st, the butterfly house makes for a great change of pace and an outstanding way to get your kids out of the house! To maintain social distancing, there will be timed tickets available for advance purchase and no more than 12 people allowed in at once.
