Receive RESTART Grant

2nd Chance Indiana Joins Keys2Work and RecycleForce in Receiving RESTART Grant.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Reentry Employment in Skilled Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, Registered Apprenticeships, and Training (RESTART) Initiative awarded competitive funding to a partnership between Keys2Work, RecycleForce, and 2nd Chance Indiana that will train, employ, and support the success of 680 young adults between the ages of 18 and 24. This grant makes it possible for 2nd Chance Indiana to provide job counseling services to these reentrants, help them earn industry-recognized credentials, connect them with quality employers who are willing to offer a second chance, and enhance the impact of job preparation training, mentoring, job counseling, and transportation to and from work until they can afford their own vehicle. As a society, if we do not supply these young adults with the tools for a better life after incarceration, we not only condemn the majority to an unhappy future, but we degrade our communities in the process.

Transportation Methods 

Take Many Routes

2nd Chance Indiana is known for its programs that use vans to transport reentrants to and from work, but as Momma used to say, there’s more than one way to skin a cat! We've long worked with some of the bus lines to provide free passes to people as they readjust to a working environment, but often the bus line stops a mile or more short of the employer's actual location, and it can be a very long walk to get to work. So, our intrepid 2nd Chance Indiana Transportation group has applied for and received a number of bikes that can be loaded on a bus, and then used at the end of the route to peddle the rest of the way to work. 2CIN is now sending these bikes to the men at Blessed Purpose Transitional Housing in Johnson County, who are anxious and grateful for the help! Over time, we'll be applying for as many as 25 bikes to expand the program to those who need them.

IMPD's East District

Community Day!

The IMPD Community Day at the East District on July 7th was a highly successful and well‑attended event, bringing together residents, families, and local organizations for an afternoon of connection and collaboration. 2CINs Job Counselor, Kendra Walker, and Director of Transportation Employment Services, Molly Oliver, engaged directly with more than 100 community members and partner organizations, sharing information about 2nd Chance Indiana services, listening to community needs, and strengthening relationships across the district.

Our conversations highlighted the ongoing interest in employment support, justice‑impacted resources, and the community’s commitment to having safer, more connected neighborhoods.

Treating Prisoners Like Patients

A scientist has revealed a plan that could rehabilitate a convicted person in minutes, instead of spending years or decades in prison. His concept called "Cognify" is designed to treat criminals like patients by implanting synthetic memories of a person's crime into the brain, showing them their victim's perspective, with implanted 'memories' that are permanent.

It may be only a "concept," but on the other hand, not that long ago there were no hand-held computers that took pictures, maintained our calendars, and gave us three ways to communicate across the globe, as we checked out the weather in Bangladesh. If someday Cognify actually works, we imagine many people might trade a 10-year sentence for a 10-minute process. Read Nancy's Blog post HERE!
