Taking the Podcast Plunge
Podcasts are becoming an increasingly popular PR tool. A recent study by Edison Research found more than 40 percent of the American population has listened to a podcast and, of those, 27 percent subscribe to a podcast. It’s a great communication tool and a way to showcase your expertise. But, before you take the podcast plunge, there are A LOT of questions to answer:

What’s the purpose of your podcast? Who is your audience? What will your theme be? How many episodes will you produce? Who will develop the content? And then, you have to decide who is your host? Who will be your guests? And who will produce your podcast so it sounds good for your listeners?

And speaking of listeners, how are you going to attract listeners? (This isn’t a “if you build it, they will come” type of deal.) You also have to think of ways to visualize your podcast so you can cross promote it via social and earned media. And, of course, you have to decide how you will measure your success.

So, If you’re thinking of producing a podcast, don’t just jump in and do it. You have to approach it strategically like any other communication effort. Yes, that takes some time and effort, but it will be time worth spending. After all, don’t you want your podcast to be listed among the “best in the business?” Now it’s time to get to work. Your podcast audience is waiting!
