A community of Christian worship, well-being and service

Taking up the Cross

The weekend of June 20-21

A Message from the Rector

Dear Friends,

This morning about 18 of us gathered for outdoor worship -- both to participate in worship, but also to test run the plans we have made. We decided to offer worship during the fair weather months outdoors, because we have plenty of beautiful lawn space and gathering outdoors is far safer than gathering inside. In addition, we can safely re-gather many more people from our community this way. We will also be broadcasting the service to the parking lot on FM radio for those who wish to remain in their cars, but still be connected to the worshipping community.

This week's online video for worship is from this morning. This will help you picture it. Next week, we will be ready to greet you starting at 8:30. Come early so you can get you safely situated by 9 a.m.

I know many of you will have questions about what to do, how to prepare and what this will be like.  Here's what you need to know right now.  Prepare to be outdoors: wear sunscreen, bring water, wear cool clothes and a hat, bring a chair and or a blanket to sit on. Shade is first come, first served.  If you click on the link in this week's bulletin you will see abundant instructions as well as our diocesan covenant for regathering.

As you arrive in your car next week you will be welcomed, greeted and instructed. We have great teams who will keep everyone safe and organized.   Inside the cover of the bulletin you will also find instructions.

This is a completely new experience, and as such there will surely be ways to improve it.  We look forward to hearing your suggestions.

It will be a blessing to re-gather in our beloved community.  I can't wait to see you again.

Faithfully, Jennifer+

Farewell to the Douce-Solomon Family

This week we give thanks and pray for the Douce- Solomon family - Tonya, Nathan, Maggie and Elijah - as they move to Virginia. They have been worshiping with us for about a year as Nathan was serving as the Executive Officer at the Naval Chaplain School. He will be stationed at the Pentegon for his next tour. Tonya has served as our Interim Coordinator of Children's Ministry and we are so grateful that they have all been a faithful part of St. Mary's.

The Collect for The Third Sunday After Pentecost

O  Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving¬≠kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Service
Thank you for your giving! You are making a difference.

Thank you to all our members and friends who have continued to contribute financially in support of the ministry of St. Mary's. Your generosity makes all the difference as we continue to share the love of God in Christ during this pandemic.

Here are ways people are giving:
  • On our our web page you can  Give Online
  • Mail in pledge payments or financial gifts to St. Mary's Church, 324 E. Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI 02871.
  • Set up online bill pay through your bank.
Given the economic realities, we are sensitive to the potential financial changes our members may encounter. If, for any reason, you are not able to maintain your pledge, please contact the rector. This will enable us to adjust our income projections so that we can be good stewards of our resources.

If you find yourself in financial need, please contact the rector. St. Mary's has a discretionary fund, which is used by the rector to offer support for the needs of our members. Members contribute to this fund anonymously, and members may receive support confidentially.

Again, thank you for your generosity and commitment. Jennifer+
